With just days remaining in the Great Tri Town Fry Debate, The Fry Pit has opened up a commanding lead with 32 of 77 newsletter votes cast so far.

Can anyone catch them?
At this point, it may take a full-blown fry-loving Hail Mary from supporters of other local favourites to change the outcome.
But stranger things have happened.
Voting remains open until Thursday, and the official winner based on combined Facebook and Newsletter votes will be revealed exclusively in Tri Town Today on FRYDAY.

TDSS Students Earn Top 10 Finishes at Skills Ontario Provincials

Seventeen students from Timiskaming District Secondary School recently travelled to Toronto to compete at the Skills Ontario Provincial Competition, showcasing their talents in skilled trades and technology events against students from across the province.
Several TDSS competitors earned Top 10 finishes in their categories:
• Carpentry Home and Team Building Team — 7th Place
Gryphon Trahan, Vaughn Wittmack, Hayden Noyes, and Makobe Sharp-Roy
• Graphic Design Presentation — 7th Place
Cyler Beland
• 3D Animation — 10th Place
Mike Peplinski and Rhys Babin
With approximately 30 competitors in many of the events, the results highlight the hard work, creativity, and dedication of the students involved.
Congratulations to all 17 TDSS students who represented the school and the Temiskaming region at the provincial level. Their achievements continue to showcase the strength of skilled trades, technology, and career-focused learning opportunities available locally.
Englehart Water Flushing Program Scheduled for May 26–28

Residents in Englehart are advised that the Town of Englehart and the Ontario Clean Water Agency will be conducting the annual spring water flushing program from May 26 to May 28.
The maintenance program helps remove deposits from the water distribution system and allows crews to assess local fire hydrants. During the flushing period, some residents may notice temporary water discolouration. If this occurs, residents are encouraged to run cold water until it clears.

💥 Blasting Notice — Thornloe Quarry
Pedersen Construction will be conducting blasting operations at the Thornloe Quarry on Wednesday, May 27 between 1:00 PM and 4:30 PM.
The quarry is located approximately 2 km north of the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 562. To ensure public safety, traffic on Highway 11 will be briefly stopped during the blast detonation. Motorists travelling through the area should expect short delays.
🚰 Annual Spring Water Flushing Program — Englehart
The Town of Englehart and the Ontario Clean Water Agency will be conducting the annual spring water flushing program from May 26 to May 28. The maintenance program helps remove accumulated deposits from the water distribution system and assess the condition of local fire hydrants.
Residents may experience temporary water discolouration during the flushing process. If this occurs, run cold water only until it clears. For questions or concerns, contact Town Hall at 705 544 2244
Road Closure — Culvert Replacement
Residents are advised of a temporary road closure on Pete’s Dam Road due to culvert replacement work beginning the week of May 25.

The closure affects Pete’s Dam Road between Highway 65 West and Pete’s Dam Park. Pete’s Dam Park will remain accessible through Laforest Road while work is underway. Crews are expected to continue work through to completion following the May 26 start.
📋 Temiskaming Shores Resident Survey Now Open
Residents of Temiskaming Shores are being encouraged to take part in a new community survey designed to help shape future programs, services, and local initiatives.
City officials say the survey gives residents an opportunity to share feedback on local priorities and community needs, helping guide decisions that impact everyday life in the community.
Residents can complete the survey online and are encouraged to participate to help influence future planning and improvements across Temiskaming Shores.
🚒 Temiskaming Shores Hiring Fire Chief
The City of Temiskaming Shores is currently seeking a full time permanent Fire Chief to lead and manage the municipal Fire Department.
The position offers a salary range of $118,055 to $138,888 annually based on a 35 hour work week. Qualified candidates are asked to submit a resume and cover letter quoting Competition No. 2026-015.
The application deadline is May 29, 2026.
💙 Volunteers Needed to Support Local Seniors
Municipalité de Notre Dame du Nord is looking for volunteers to spend time with elderly residents and help reduce isolation in the community. Even a simple visit or conversation can make a meaningful difference.

💚 Zack’s Crib Homeless Prevention Fund — Grant Deadline Approaching
Applications are now being accepted for the Zack’s Crib Homeless Prevention Fund, with grants available for community projects up to $15,000.
Organizations interested in applying can find guidelines and application forms through the Temiskaming Foundation website. The application deadline is May 31.
🚰 Municipal Water System Flushing Scheduled — Temagami
The Ontario Clean Water Agency will be conducting routine flushing of the Municipal Water Distribution System in Temagami this June.
Temagami North flushing is scheduled from June 2 to June 5, while Temagami South is scheduled from June 9 to June 12. During this time, residents may notice temporary water discoloration, sediment, rust, or reduced water pressure.
If discoloured water occurs, residents are advised to wait until flushing is complete, then run cold water taps until the water clears. For questions or concerns, contact the Public Works Department at 705 569 3421 ext. 205.
🏋️ Free Day Passes at Rack Fitness This May

Rack Fitness features 24/7 access, a full range of equipment, clean facilities, and a community focused atmosphere. Anyone interested can send Rack Fitness a message on Facebook to claim a free pass.
🌳 Recreation Operations Update — Temiskaming Shores
The City of Temiskaming Shores has released a seasonal recreation update as some spring openings have been delayed due to weather conditions and a late spring.
The Rotary Splash Pad and One Foot Forward Spray Zone are now scheduled to open May 29. Sweeping and bollard installation along the STATO Trail is expected to be completed by May 22.
Outdoor washrooms are expected to open by May 11, while sport courts and playgrounds are already open and available for public use. The City says it appreciates residents’ patience as crews continue preparing facilities for the season.
