Article 2: Treasure Hunting for a Cause: The Big Royal LePage Yard Sale is Back!

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect excuse to go bargain hunting, your Saturday morning plans are officially locked in.

For the first time since before COVID, the Shelter Foundation Yard Sale Fundraiser is returning to downtown New Liskeard. The driveways and tables at the Royal LePage office are going to be packed with items donated by local REALTORS®, their families, friends, and community supporters.

What Can You Expect to Find?
Because the donations are coming from all over the community, the variety is huge. Organizers promise there will truly be something for everyone, including:

🧸 Toys and children's items

🏡 Home décor and household goods

👗 Clothing for all ages

🪑 Furniture pieces and unique hidden treasures

Your Change Creates Real Change
If you're hesitating to stop by because you only have a few bucks in your pocket, the organizers want you to know that every single coin counts. A $2 purchase might feel small to you, but when hundreds of neighbors buy a $2 item, it quickly transforms into funding for emergency resources, counseling, and safe spaces at The Pavilion Women's Centre in Haileybury.

📍 Where: Royal LePage Office, 117 Whitewood Avenue, New Liskeard

A Community Legacy Honoured at Temiskaming Hospital

A fundraising event that touched thousands of lives now has a permanent home inside Temiskaming Hospital.

The Temiskaming Hospital Foundation has officially unveiled the newly named Biker's Reunion Cancer Treatment Centre, recognizing the extraordinary impact the Biker's Reunion has had on cancer care in our region.

Since its beginnings in 1999, the event raised more than $6 million for cancer care charities, including over $2 million for Temiskaming Hospital. Those funds helped support equipment, services, and local cancer care closer to home for countless families.

The recognition honours not only founder Barry Phippen, but also the dedicated committee members, volunteers, sponsors, riders, and community supporters who helped build the Biker's Reunion into one of Northern Ontario's most successful fundraising events.

The announcement sparked an outpouring of support on social media, with residents calling the tribute "well deserved" and praising the lasting difference the event has made for cancer patients throughout the region.

The newly named treatment centre will serve as a permanent reminder of what can happen when a community comes together for a cause bigger than itself.

Local Animal Shelter Seeking Volunteers

Could you spare an hour a week to help a local dog?

The Northern Animals Rescue and Sanctuary is looking for volunteers to assist with feeding and caring for dogs awaiting their forever homes.

Organizers say even helping with one feeding shift per week can make a meaningful difference. Duties include feeding, providing fresh water, and spending a little time with the animals.

Volunteer times are flexible, and the shelter is happy to work around schedules.

If you have some free time and would like to help a great cause, send the shelter a message. Your support could make a big difference in the life of a local dog. 🐾
