Article 1: Breaking the Silence: Why This Saturday’s Yard Sale Matters for the Tri-Towns

Pic Credit: Royal Lepage

It is a sobering reality that many of us don't talk about: intimate partner violence (IPV) doesn't just happen in big cities. In fact, studies show it can be even more prevalent in rural and northern communities like ours.

This Saturday, June 6th, our community has a direct opportunity to stand up, show we care, and provide a lifeline to local families who need it most.

The team at Royal LePage in New Liskeard is bringing back their Shelter Foundation Yard Sale Fundraiser, and every single penny raised is staying right here in the community.

100% Local Impact
While the event is hosted by Royal LePage, 100% of the proceeds are being sent directly to The Pavilion Women's Centre in Haileybury.

The Pavilion provides critical, life-saving programs, emergency shelter, and resources for women and children fleeing violence, helping them find immediate safety and begin the hard work of rebuilding their lives.

For the local Royal LePage REALTORS®, this isn't just a one-day charity project. Many of the local agents you work with are "Commission Donors," meaning they automatically contribute a portion of every single real estate transaction they close throughout the year to the Shelter Foundation. Saturday's yard sale is their way of opening up that mission to the entire community.

The Goal: $1,000+ and a Clear Message
The organizers have set a fundraising goal of $1,000, but they emphasize that the event is about much more than a dollar amount. It's about raising awareness and sending a collective message that no one in the Tri-Towns has to face these challenges alone.

"People sometimes think their contribution is too small to matter, but community events like this show how quickly those small contributions add up. Whether someone spends $2 or $200, every dollar raised helps support women and children who need safety, support, and hope."

Big Silver Numbers at Historical Langis Project In Coleman Township

The historic silver fields near Cobalt are showing some serious sparks. Brixton Metals just announced spectacular new drill results from its ongoing exploration at the Langis Project, proving there is still high-grade treasure buried in our backyard.

For generations, the Cobalt Mining Camp was world-famous for its silver riches, and this new data shows why that legacy is far from over. Drilling right next to the historic "Shaft 6" area, exploration crews hit an exceptional pocket of silver mineralization. The standout highlight? A drill hole that cut through a narrow vein yielding a massive 1,811 grams per tonne (g/t) of silver over 2.3 meters, sitting within a wider zone averaging 166.45 g/t silver.

To put those numbers in perspective, geologists usually consider anything over 150 g/t to be high grade. Hitting numbers in the thousands proves that the classic, ultra-rich silver veins the area is famous for are still intact.

What's Next for the Project?
This isn't just a one-off lucky strike. Brixton is currently in the middle of a massive 60,000-meter drilling program. The ultimate goal is to calculate a "maiden mineral resource estimate"—which is a formal, mathematical calculation of exactly how much silver is left down there. It is the crucial first step required to see if reopening the historical mine makes economic sense.

With dozens of holes still to be drilled and analyzed, the local mining scene will be one to watch closely this summer.
