Keep Your Game Going This Summer

Basketball season may be over, but young players don't have to put the ball away for the summer.

Zubyck SkillZ Basketball is bringing five days of outdoor basketball sessions to the New Liskeard Tennis Courts from July 20 to 24, giving local athletes a chance to keep developing their skills while enjoying some time on the court.

The program is open to boys and girls born between 2009 and 2019, with participants divided into age groups for 1.5-hour sessions.

The Temiskaming Thunder, which doesn't offer summer programming of its own, is encouraging young athletes to check out the local clinic. Thunder coaches have worked alongside Zubyck SkillZ over the years and say programs like this help keep kids active while growing the game in the community.

Your Closet Could Help Someone

That pair of jeans or hoodie sitting unworn in your closet could mean much more to someone arriving at a local shelter with very few belongings.

The Pavilion Women's Centre is currently seeking donations of women's clothing in sizes small and medium, with a particular need for modern, casual styles that teens and young adults would feel comfortable wearing.

Needed items include jeans, T-shirts, hoodies, sweaters, leggings, sweatpants, tracksuits, pajamas, and everyday outfits that are currently in style.

For women arriving at the shelter with few personal belongings, something as simple as comfortable clothing can provide a sense of dignity and help rebuild confidence during a difficult time.

Residents are asked not to leave donations at the door. Anyone with suitable clothing to donate should call 705-672-2128 to arrange a drop-off time.

Before your next closet cleanout, take a second look at those clothes you no longer wear. They could be exactly what someone else needs right now.
