Where Horses Inspire Creativity

Most paint nights end with a canvas.
This one hopes you'll leave with something more.
On Friday evening at Alpha Horse Farm, participants will paint a horse-themed masterpiece while surrounded by horses in their own barn. It's a unique collaboration between equine-assisted learning facilitator Annette Rondeau and local artist Angela of Art by Angela, combining creativity with what Rondeau describes as the calming energy of horses.
For Rondeau, the event is the realization of a dream years in the making.
"I have had a deep connection, perhaps obsession, with horses for as long as I can remember," she said.
After earning a Psychology degree and spending years working in education and helping professions, she completed her certification in Equine Assisted Learning. She had long been looking for a way to bring together her love of horses, education and helping others.
The missing piece came through inspiration from her artist cousin, Angela
"I thought about how art and horses and imagined how combining these two could be an amazing opportunity to collaborate and create an inspiring activity for others."
Unlike a traditional paint night, the setting is just as important as the artwork.
"Our barn is a peaceful place where horse spirits live," Rondeau said. "Participants will be able to feel the positive impact of horse energy while being inspired through the expressive experience of art."
Everyone's experience, she says, will be personal.
Whether someone has never been around horses or has loved them their entire life, she hopes the horses' presence encourages creativity and helps participants express themselves through painting.
The evening is designed to be welcoming for everyone.
"No previous art or horse experience is needed," Rondeau said. "The horses are cared for, participants can interact with them at their own comfort level, and Angela will guide everyone through each step of the painting process."
By the end of the evening, Rondeau hopes participants take home more than just a finished painting.
"We hope everyone leaves with fond memories, feeling creatively inspired, relaxed, uplifted by horse energy and perhaps even with some new human connections."
Above all, she hopes the event offers people something that's often hard to find.
"We are striving to make this a positive experience for everyone who attends. We hope it is an opportunity to take a break from our busy lives, to be uplifted by the incredible energy of horses and inspired through the expression of art."
Pet & Paint takes place Friday, July 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Alpha Horse Farm, 926213 North Quarry Road, New Liskeard. The cost is $60 per person, with all art supplies included. No previous painting or horse experience is required, but spaces are limited and advance registration is encouraged. Contact [email protected] to register
