The Pilgrimage Is Back

A limited-edition beer may be one of the newest additions to this year's New Liskeard Bikers Reunion, but it's what the can represents that has organizer Barry Phippen smiling.

For the first time in the event's history, the reunion has partnered with Whiskeyjack Beer Co. to create an official reunion brew featuring the event's familiar logo and "The Dude." Phippen says the collaboration is another way to celebrate the reunion while supporting a local business and the regional economy.

But perhaps the biggest sign that this year's reunion is building momentum isn't what's inside the can.

"It's happening again," Phippen said. "The pilgrimage is happening again."

He recently heard from an 86-year-old rider near Sarnia who decided on his own to make the trip north on his Gold Wing motorcycle. Another registered rider is travelling all the way from Surrey, British Columbia, carrying little more than a tent strapped to the back of his bike.

For Phippen, those stories are proof that the New Liskeard Bikers Reunion has once again found its place on the map for motorcycle enthusiasts across Canada.

The event has raised more than $4 million for cancer care and specialized equipment at Temiskaming Hospital over the years, making it one of the community's most successful fundraising events.

There is another layer to this year's reunion. While organizing one of the biggest events of the summer, Phippen is also undergoing chemotherapy.

"Chemo knocks the daylights out of you," he wrote to Tri Town Today. "But the show must go on."

If there was ever a year to come out and support the New Liskeard Bikers Reunion, this may be it. You'll be supporting local businesses, a homegrown event with national reach, and a community tradition built by volunteers who continue to give back, even while facing battles of their own.

Latchford Prepare For Overnight Water Outage Saturday June 20

Latchford residents are being asked to prepare for an overnight water shutdown as the Town completes upgrades at its Water Treatment Plant.

Water service will be interrupted beginning Saturday, June 20 at 10:00 p.m. and is expected to be restored by approximately 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 21 while crews replace four gate valves.

Residents are encouraged to store water in advance for flushing toilets and other essential household needs during the outage.

Once service is restored, the entire community will be under a Boil Water Advisory until water sample results confirm the system is safe, which is expected later in the week.

The Town says every water user will receive a Boil Water Advisory and an additional information sheet delivered directly to their door. Notices will not be placed in mailboxes. Copies of the advisory will also be available at Canada Post and the Medical Centre.

Town officials thanked residents for their patience as the work is completed.
