Temagami Map Took 27 Years

Pic Credit: Temagami & District Chamber of Commerce
A limited number of signed copies of Craig MacDonald’s renowned Map of Temagami are now available at the Temagami Information Centre.
Widely considered one of Canada’s most important historical maps, the project took 27 years to complete and involved more than 1,000 miles of personal exploration, along with knowledge shared by over 200 Anishinaabe Elders.
The map documents traditional place names, canoe routes, winter trails, and travel corridors throughout the Temagami region while helping preserve the history and knowledge of the Teme-Augama Anishnabai.
The Temagami & District Chamber of Commerce says copies of The Echo Maker by James Raffan are also available. The book tells the story behind MacDonald’s decades-long effort to create the map and preserve the cultural and geographic history of the region.
Residents and visitors interested in Temagami’s deeper history are encouraged to stop by the information centre while signed copies remain available.
