Three Generations, One Colourful Scarf

It took hundreds of colourful granny squares and a little help from three generations of one family to give Ms. Claybelt her new winter look.

The well-known cow statue at the Little Claybelt Homesteaders Museum is now sporting a handmade scarf, thanks to donations from The Match Factory and members of the community.

But the finishing touch became a family affair.

Jack Schoenijahn, his mother Sandra and his grandfather Rory were all there to help dress the statue in her new scarf.

The museum thanked everyone who donated granny squares and helped bring the project together.

What started with individual squares of yarn has become a colourful reminder of what a community can create together.

Students Cook for Christmas Baskets

Students at École Rivière-des-Quinze are putting their cooking skills to work for a good cause.

On Tuesday, November 10, they'll hold a food fundraiser at the school in Notre-Dame-du-Nord, with proceeds supporting the community's Christmas food baskets.

The food is being prepared by students in the school's semi-specialized vocational training program, giving them an opportunity to put their skills into practice while helping local families.

The menu includes spaghetti sauce for $10 per 500 mL, chocolate balls for $12 a dozen, butter tartlets for $15 a dozen and sweet-and-salty squares for $18 a tray. Other items include a creamy dessert for $14 and homemade garlic butter for $2 per quarter cup.

The sale runs from 4:15 to 7 p.m. at the school.

Organizers say there will be no advance reservations this time, so anyone hoping to purchase something will need to stop by during the sale.

It's an opportunity to support students learning a trade while helping fill Christmas food baskets for families in Notre-Dame-du-Nord.
