Recovery Room Podcast Returns With Big Updates From Temiskaming Hospital

The latest episode of the Recovery Room Podcast gives listeners a behind the scenes look at what has been happening at Temiskaming Hospital over the past several months. Hosts Joe and Chrissy recap major fundraising milestones, including more than $450,000 raised for the hospital’s new mammography unit and nearly $31,000 raised during the recent Radiothon for a neonatal isolette.

The episode also touches on the Night of the Stars Gala, hospital upgrades, upcoming golf tournament plans, community partnerships, and the departure of hospital CEO Mike Baker.

New Liskeard Cubs Searching for Billet Homes for Upcoming Season

The New Liskeard Cubs are currently looking for billet homes for the upcoming 2026–27 hockey season.

Billet families play an important role in junior hockey by providing players with a place to stay while they compete and develop both on and off the ice throughout the season.

The organization says they are looking for community members interested in supporting local hockey and helping make a difference in the lives of young athletes.

Behind every junior hockey team are local families helping make it all possible.

Downtown New Liskeard Looking for New BIA Board Members

The Downtown New Liskeard BIA is currently looking for two new community minded members to join its Board of Management.

Eligible applicants must own or rent a commercial property within the downtown BIA area. Board members meet monthly and help support projects, events, promotions, and initiatives focused on strengthening downtown New Liskeard as a place to shop, eat, and visit.

Applications are available through the Municipal Clerk’s office at [email protected] or at City Hall located at 325 Farr Drive.

Completed applications must be submitted by Friday, May 29 at 4:30 p.m.

🚱 Water Flushing and Boil Water Advisory Underway in Notre-Dame-du-Nord

Residents in Notre-Dame-du-Nord are being advised that aqueduct flushing will take place May 19–22 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., which may cause temporary pressure drops, cloudy water, or brief service interruptions. A boil water advisory is in effect as a precaution while the maintenance work is completed.

🚒 Temiskaming Shores Hiring Fire Chief

The City of Temiskaming Shores is currently seeking a full time permanent Fire Chief to lead and manage the municipal Fire Department.

The position offers a salary range of $118,055 to $138,888 annually based on a 35 hour work week. Qualified candidates are asked to submit a resume and cover letter quoting Competition No. 2026-015.

The application deadline is May 29, 2026.

💙 Volunteers Needed to Support Local Seniors

Municipalité de Notre Dame du Nord is looking for volunteers to spend time with elderly residents and help reduce isolation in the community. Even a simple visit or conversation can make a meaningful difference.

⛏️ Cobalt Mining Museum Reopening May 22

The Cobalt Mining Museum will reopen for the season on Friday, May 22. During May and June, the museum will operate Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Expanded summer hours begin in July and August with daily admission from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, including underground mine tours running daily throughout the summer season.

💚 Zack’s Crib Homeless Prevention Fund — Grant Deadline Approaching

Applications are now being accepted for the Zack’s Crib Homeless Prevention Fund, with grants available for community projects up to $15,000.

Organizations interested in applying can find guidelines and application forms through the Temiskaming Foundation website. The application deadline is May 31.

🏋️ Free Day Passes at Rack Fitness This May

Thinking about trying Rack Fitness? Throughout the month of May, the gym is offering free day passes for anyone wanting to check it out.

Rack Fitness features 24/7 access, a full range of equipment, clean facilities, and a community focused atmosphere. Anyone interested can send Rack Fitness a message on Facebook to claim a free pass.

🌳 Recreation Operations Update — Temiskaming Shores

The City of Temiskaming Shores has released a seasonal recreation update as some spring openings have been delayed due to weather conditions and a late spring.

The Rotary Splash Pad and One Foot Forward Spray Zone are now scheduled to open May 29. Sweeping and bollard installation along the STATO Trail is expected to be completed by May 22.

Outdoor washrooms are expected to open by May 11, while sport courts and playgrounds are already open and available for public use. The City says it appreciates residents’ patience as crews continue preparing facilities for the season.
