Northern Ontario Residents Invited to Share Medical Travel Experiences in New Study

Pic Credit: Nabi Brahm
A new study is looking to better understand the financial impact of travelling for medical care across Northern Ontario, and residents in the region are being invited to take part.
The research is being led through NOSM University, with support from the Northern Ontario Academic Medical Association, and focuses on how well the Northern Health Travel Grant helps offset costs for patients who must travel for care.
Organizers are seeking participants who are 18 or older, have travelled for medical care within the past six months, and have used the Northern Health Travel Grant.
Those who take part will complete a 30 to 45 minute interview, sharing their experiences and perspectives on the costs associated with medical travel. Participants will receive a $50 honorarium as a thank you for their time.
The goal of the study is to gather real experiences from across Northern Ontario to better understand the financial challenges patients face and evaluate how effective current support programs are.
The study has been approved by the Lakehead University Research Ethics Board.

Borrow a Park Pass Through the Library and Explore Ontario Parks for Free

A simple library card could be the key to your next outdoor adventure.
The Temiskaming Shores Public Library is offering residents the chance to borrow Ontario Parks day-use passes, giving free access to more than 100 provincial parks across the province.
The passes are part of a lending program that allows cardholders to check out a permit for up to seven days, providing day-use entry for one vehicle and its passengers.
Available through the library’s “Library of Things” collection, the passes are designed to make it easier for people to get outside and enjoy nature without the cost of park entry fees.
The program is part of a broader initiative across Ontario that partners public libraries with Ontario Parks, helping make outdoor spaces more accessible to families and individuals.
While the pass covers entry, visitors are reminded that some parks may require advance reservations, especially during busy times.

Game Coming Soon!
Be On The Look Out!
You’re going to start seeing this guy around.
We call him the Tri Town Guide.

We’re going to be launching a simple game on Facebook called Find the Guide. On certain days we’ll post a photo somewhere around the Tri Town. The Guide will be in that photo. Your job will be to figure out where it is.

You’ll drop your guess in the comment, and every correct answer will count as an entry. We’ll draw a winner each week and feature them in the newsletter. Local businesses will be part of it too, so prizes will come from right here in the community.
It’s meant to be simple. Something quick, something fun, something that makes you look at the tri town area a little differently.
We’re not launching it just yet. We want to build this up properly first. But it’s coming soon.
So for now, just keep an eye out.
Because once the Guide starts showing up, you’ll know it’s time to play.
