D-Day Stories Come to New Liskeard

Pic Credit: Little Claybelt Homesteaders Museum
More than 80 years after Canadian soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy, their stories are coming to New Liskeard.
The Little Claybelt Homesteaders Museum is hosting When Daylight Comes: The Canadians on D-Day, a six-panel travelling exhibition exploring the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944.
Through photographs and personal stories, visitors will learn about the Canadians who took part in one of the most significant operations of the Second World War.
The museum will also display photographs and wartime artifacts from both world wars, donated by local families. These pieces offer a connection between the history we read about and the people who lived in our own communities.
The exhibition runs October 28, 29 and 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. and October 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 883356 Highway 65 in New Liskeard.
Schools can arrange visits during school hours. For more information, call 705-647-9575.

Lions Back Hospice With $10,000

Pic Credit: New Liskeard Lions Club
This past summer, Tri Town Today explored what it would take to bring a residential hospice to the Temiskaming area. One question remained: how would the community help turn that vision into reality?
The New Liskeard Lions Club has now offered one answer, donating $10,000 to Northern Hospice Care.
In our earlier series, we looked at why a local hospice matters, what a welcoming home for patients and families could look like and the challenges of finding a suitable property and raising the money to make it happen.
The Lions Club announced its donation on October 21. A photo of the cheque presentation shows Lion Sandra Lowe, club president Patrick Smits and Chris Gallagher of Northern Hospice Care.
There is still work ahead before the community has its own residential hospice. But the Lions' contribution is a concrete example of the support needed to move the project forward.
What began as a conversation about what our community needs is also becoming a story about what people are willing to give.
Welcome to the Community, Gail

Gail Waghorn will soon be calling Temiskaming Shores home as she prepares to become Temiskaming Hospital’s new CEO on November 2.
A longtime Northeastern Ontario resident, Gail brings more than 30 years of senior healthcare leadership experience, including roles with MIC’s Group of Health Services and West Nipissing General Hospital.
Her experience includes helping northern hospitals manage financial pressures while protecting essential services. The hospital says she plans to be visible and accessible, building relationships with residents and community partners.
The board also thanked interim CEO Brent Gabbani and the senior leadership team for taking on extra responsibilities during the transition.
Welcome to the community, Gail. We wish you well as you settle into your new home and role.

💧 Boil Water Advisory Englehart
The boil water advisory for Englehart, and for residents served by the Englehart drinking water system including connections in Evanturel, remains in effect. The Town of Englehart says well maintenance is continuing this week, and the advisory is expected to be lifted on the afternoon of Thursday, October 22, pending satisfactory bacterial samples.
Until the lift notice is issued, bring tap water to a rolling boil for one full minute before drinking it, cooking, brushing teeth, or making ice, or use bottled water. Please conserve water where possible in the coming weeks while the maintenance continues.
Watch for the notice from the Town of Englehart to lift the advisory later today.
🍬 Halloween Treat Drive in Latchford
Want to hand out treats this Halloween but cannot be at the door? The Latchford Fire Department is accepting candy and treat donations. Drop them off at the fire department on October 24 between 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
Your donations help make Halloween sweet and safe for local kids.
