Downtown New Liskeard comes alive July 24 and 25 with two days of live music, shopping, family activities and entertainment for all ages.

From Friday night's street concert featuring Super Busy and Mistaken ID to Saturday's vendor market, local musicians, inflatables, a climbing wall, 3-on-3 basketball, magic and more, there's something happening all weekend long. Here's what's happening at this year's Downtown New Liskeard Block Party.

Downtown New Liskeard will be filled with basketball this Saturday as 23 teams and 92 players compete in the Temiskaming Basketball 3-on-3 Tournament.

The tournament runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, with games taking place on two outdoor courts at the corner of Armstrong Street and Whitewood Avenue as part of the Downtown New Liskeard BIA Block Party.

Teams from Temiskaming Shores and surrounding communities will be joined by players from North Bay, Timmins, Kirkland Lake and Quebec, competing across multiple age divisions for bragging rights.

When they're not on the court, players and spectators can enjoy everything the Block Party has to offer, including local vendors, shopping, bouncy castles, family activities and live entertainment throughout the day.

The event is presented through a partnership between Temiskaming Basketball and the Downtown New Liskeard BIA, with support from the New Liskeard Lions Club and Zubyck SkillZ.

Whether you're playing, cheering on a friend or just enjoying the Block Party, expect an exciting day of basketball in the heart of downtown.

The future of Cobalt's historic Pan Silver (Willet Green Miller Memorial) Headframe remains uncertain, but demolition has been put on hold.

At its July 21 meeting, Cobalt Council agreed to pause the planned demolition while options to preserve the landmark are explored.

The decision came after a strong show of community support, with residents attending the meeting and speaking in favour of preserving the headframe. The Cobalt Historical Society thanked Council for listening to its presentation and considering alternatives before moving forward with an irreversible decision.

The Society also recognized Deputy Mayor Pat Anderson for facilitating the delegation, along with Coleman Township Mayor Dan Cleroux and Charlie Angus for their behind-the-scenes support.

With demolition paused, discussions will now continue with the Town of Cobalt, Coleman Township, Agnico Eagle Mines and other potential partners to explore practical ways to preserve the structure while addressing public safety concerns.

For now, one of Cobalt's most recognizable landmarks has been given more time as the community searches for a path forward.

Road closures will be in effect in downtown New Liskeard from Friday, July 24, to Saturday, July 25 to accommodate the New Liskeard BIA Block Party.

Sections of Whitewood Avenue, Armstrong Street and Wellington Street will be closed from 7 a.m. Friday until approximately 5 p.m. Saturday. Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the event is underway.

The City thanks residents for their patience and cooperation as the community comes together to celebrate the annual Block Party.

A precautionary boil water advisory will be in effect for Englehart beginning Monday, July 20, while work is completed at the Town's Water Treatment Plant.

Residents should bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth or making ice. The advisory will remain in effect until the Town of Englehart and Northeastern Public Health announce it has been lifted.

Registration is now open for the 2026 Baby Contest, taking place Saturday, September 19 at 11:00 AM on the Entertainment Stage inside the Horne Granite Curling Club.

The contest is open to babies from newborn to 12 months old, born between September 1, 2025 and August 31, 2026. Registration is required by August 31, with prizes awarded at the end of the contest.
