Fall Fun Adds Special Days

October at Aidie Creek Gardens just got a little fuller.

The fall farm announced a handful of extra dates on top of its regular weekend hours. Wednesday, October 7 is Special Needs Day, 10 AM to 4 PM, a day the crew there looks forward to all year.

Then the maze stays open late. Maze Nights run Saturdays October 10, 17 and 24, 7 to 10 PM. Weather permitting, so check the farm's Facebook page before heading out. This is not a haunted event, just the maze after dark.

Two bonus open days round it out: Thanksgiving Monday, October 12, and the PD Day, Monday, October 26, both 10 AM to 5 PM. Regular hours continue Saturdays and Sundays through October 31.

One note for dog owners: the Fall Fun area is a pet-free zone, and the parking lot has little shade. Best to leave the furry family at home.

Watch the farm's Facebook page for weather calls on Maze Nights, and go make a fall day of it.

Youth Curling Starts in Englehart

Englehart's ice is calling the next generation.

The Englehart Curling Club is launching a youth curling program for kids ages 9 to 14. U12 covers ages 9 to 11, U15 covers ages 12 to 14.

The six-week session runs Sundays, 11 AM to noon, November 1 through December 6. It costs $50, and all kids need is clean indoor shoes, a helmet and warm clothes.

The goal is to build skills and learn the game, with an eye toward growing into a full-season program as more volunteers join up.

Spots are limited. Message the Englehart Curling Club Facebook page to register, or use the sign-up form on their post.

Sign up early if your kid wants in.

$4.9 Million For Local Transit

Getting around without a car just got a big vote of confidence.

The Ontario government is putting $4.9 million into transit for Temiskaming Shores through the Ontario Transit Investment Fund. The money adds flex and on-demand options to the city's fixed-route service.

The bigger picture is regional. The same funding launches an intercommunity service connecting 12 municipalities and one First Nations community across South Temiskaming, with first-mile and last-mile links to the Northlander passenger rail service.

The city is calling it the Temiskaming Shores Area Transit initiative, and implementation planning is already underway. The target is a launch in 2027.

The announcement made the rounds in the Temiskaming Shores group this week, and folks were pretty excited. Hard to blame them.
