Part 2 of 4 - Shopping That Gives Back

What if your next shopping trip could help your neighbour?
It may sound unlikely, but that's exactly what happens when someone shops at The Temiskaming Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop.
Each year, The Temiskaming Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop provides thousands of dollars in bursaries to local students pursuing careers in healthcare, awarding $4,000 one year and $6,000 the next. This year, it also purchased a new blanket warmer for the hospital valued at approximately $9,000.
The Auxiliary doesn't decide who receives the bursaries. Local schools select students who are continuing their education in healthcare, helping support the next generation of professionals who may one day care for patients in our own community.
That's what makes shopping here different.
A new sweater doesn't just become part of your wardrobe.
A hand bag becomes part of a student's future.

A piece of jewellery helps purchase equipment that will be used to care for neighbours, friends and family.
Diane Vachon says that's what the volunteers are most proud of. Every purchase helps strengthen healthcare close to home.
It's easy to walk into a store and wonder where your money goes.
Here, you already know.
It stays right here in Temiskaming.

And every purchase from The Temiskaming Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop leaves with two people.
You.
And someone you'll probably never meet.
It might be a local student taking the first step toward a career in healthcare.
It might be a future patient recovering under the warmth of a blanket warmer after surgery.
Either way, your purchase becomes part of something much bigger than what's inside your shopping bag.

Sometimes supporting your local hospital doesn't begin with a donation.
Sometimes it begins with a little shopping.

Look Up, Haileybury!

Pic Credit: Branch 54 - Haileybury Legion
Haileybury's centennial celebration just got even bigger.
The Royal Canadian Air Force is planning a low-level fly-by over Lake Temiskaming on Tuesday, July 14, featuring a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft.
The fly-by is expected to take place between 1 and 1:20 p.m. during the centennial parade, giving residents and visitors a rare opportunity to see the massive aircraft flying over the lake.
It's another memorable addition to five days of celebrations marking Haileybury Legion Branch 54's 100th anniversary, with events running from July 14 to 18.
If you're anywhere near the Haileybury waterfront Tuesday afternoon, keep your eyes on the sky. This is one centennial moment you won't want to miss.
Popular Lookout Closed To Public

Pic Credit: TemiskamingShores.ca
A familiar spot overlooking Wabi Bay and Lake Timiskaming is now off-limits to the public.
The City of Temiskaming Shores has announced that the privately owned property off Sydenham Road, commonly used as a lookout, is no longer accessible to visitors.
The City says the property is not a municipally authorized public lookout or designated recreational space, and public access is not permitted.
As part of the closure, No Trespassing signs will be installed and concrete barriers will be placed at the entrance to prevent vehicle access. The City will also remove its garbage receptacle and stop routine maintenance at the site.
Residents are being asked to respect the closure and report incidents of trespassing, vandalism or suspicious activity to the Ontario Provincial Police.
For many residents, the location has long been a familiar place to stop and take in views of Wabi Bay and Lake Timiskaming. The closure means that tradition has now come to an end, at least at this privately owned property.

❄️ Escape the Heat at Temiskaming Shores Library
The Temiskaming Shores Library is welcoming anyone looking for a cool, air-conditioned place to escape the heat wave. Visitors can relax, read, or simply take a break from the heat during regular library hours.
The library is open Monday and Friday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
