Local Swimmers Shine at Provincials

Two young swimmers from the Temiskaming Northern Loons Swim Club made their mark on the provincial stage this weekend, bringing home medals, personal bests and plenty of reasons for the local community to be proud.
Jada and Colton competed over three days at the Ontario Swimming Championships at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, taking on some of the province's top young swimmers.
For Jada, it was her first-ever provincial championship, and she delivered strong performances throughout the weekend. She competed in the 100-metre backstroke on the opening day before powering through the 200-metre backstroke on the final day, gaining 3 personal bests and valuable experience at the provincial level.
Colton had an outstanding championship, earning medals and personal bests throughout the three days.
He opened the competition with a silver medal in the 200-metre freestyle and a fourth-place finish in the 50-metre butterfly. On the second day, he reached the podium twice more, winning gold in the 400-metre freestyle and silver in the 100-metre freestyle, while both he and Jada achieved personal bests in every race that day.
Colton saved two more exceptional performances for the final day, winning gold in both the 50-metre freestyle and 800-metre freestyle.
The club also recognized Coach Stacy for her wisdom, calmness and resilience throughout the competition, along with coaches Cynthia, Aaron and Sheri, whose support helped guide Jada and Colton on their provincial journey.
For two young athletes representing a small Northern Ontario swim club, it was a remarkable three days on one of the province's biggest stages.
Congratulations to Jada and Colton on representing the Temiskaming Northern Loons and our entire region with pride!
