Reminder: TSMHA Equipment Grant Applications Close Today at Noon

Families interested in applying for free hockey equipment support through the Temiskaming Shores Minor Hockey Association program are being reminded that the deadline is today, May 19 at 12 p.m.

TSMHA was recently selected to receive player equipment through the OREO Stay Playful for All initiative and NHLPA Goals and Dreams program, helping support local players and reduce the cost of getting on the ice.

Association officials are encouraging families to submit applications before the noon deadline.

Englehart Residents Reminded About Spring Clean-Up Week

Residents in Englehart are being reminded that Spring Clean-Up Week bgins today, with yard debris pickup scheduled for Tuesday, May 19.

The Township says all debris should be placed at the roadside before 8 a.m.

Accepted items include bundled branches up to four feet in length, bagged leaves, grass clippings, and garden debris. Officials note that only clear plastic bags will be collected.

The township also announced that landfill tipping fees will be waived on select dates during the clean-up period, including May 19, 23, and 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The clean-up applies to residential waste only and will not affect regular garbage collection.

Kap-Kig-Iwan Provincial Park Set to Open for 2026 Season This Weekend

Outdoor season is officially starting to return across the region.

Kap-Kig-Iwan Provincial Park has announced it will open for the 2026 season on Friday, May 22, welcoming both campers and day visitors back to the park.

Park officials also shared that camping and day use will now remain open through October 12 for the 2026 season.

Known for its waterfalls, hiking trails, and scenic views along the Englehart River, the park is a popular destination for both locals and travelers looking to spend time outdoors during the warmer months.

🚱 Water Flushing and Boil Water Advisory Underway in Notre-Dame-du-Nord

Residents in Notre-Dame-du-Nord are being advised that aqueduct flushing will take place May 19–22 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., which may cause temporary pressure drops, cloudy water, or brief service interruptions. A boil water advisory is in effect as a precaution while the maintenance work is completed.

💙 Volunteers Needed to Support Local Seniors

Municipalité de Notre Dame du Nord is looking for volunteers to spend time with elderly residents and help reduce isolation in the community. Even a simple visit or conversation can make a meaningful difference.

🏒 TSMHA Offering Free Hockey Equipment Grants for Families

The Temiskaming Shores Minor Hockey Association has been selected to receive hockey equipment grants through the OREO Stay Playful for All program in partnership with NHLPA Goals and Dreams.

The program will provide player equipment to help support local families and improve access to hockey in the community. Families interested in applying are encouraged to visit the TSMHA website for full details and application information.

Parent volunteers are being sought to help support a TDSS school breakfast program. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Ms. Barb [email protected] for more information.

⛏️ Cobalt Mining Museum Reopening May 22

The Cobalt Mining Museum will reopen for the season on Friday, May 22. During May and June, the museum will operate Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Expanded summer hours begin in July and August with daily admission from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, including underground mine tours running daily throughout the summer season.

🏋️ Free Day Passes at Rack Fitness This May

Thinking about trying Rack Fitness? Throughout the month of May, the gym is offering free day passes for anyone wanting to check it out.

Rack Fitness features 24/7 access, a full range of equipment, clean facilities, and a community focused atmosphere. Anyone interested can send Rack Fitness a message on Facebook to claim a free pass.

🌳 Recreation Operations Update — Temiskaming Shores

The City of Temiskaming Shores has released a seasonal recreation update as some spring openings have been delayed due to weather conditions and a late spring.

The Rotary Splash Pad and One Foot Forward Spray Zone are now scheduled to open May 29. Sweeping and bollard installation along the STATO Trail is expected to be completed by May 22.

Outdoor washrooms are expected to open by May 11, while sport courts and playgrounds are already open and available for public use. The City says it appreciates residents’ patience as crews continue preparing facilities for the season.
