Downtown New Liskeard comes alive July 24 and 25 with two days of live music, shopping, family activities and entertainment for all ages.

From Friday night's street concert featuring Super Busy and Mistaken ID to Saturday's vendor market, local musicians, inflatables, a climbing wall, 3-on-3 basketball, magic and more, there's something happening all weekend long. Here's what's happening at this year's Downtown New Liskeard Block Party.

Hudson Township is inviting residents and visitors to spend a summer day together at its 3rd Annual Day in the Park on Saturday, August 1, at Pike Lake Park.

The family-friendly event features a full day of activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., including a children's word scramble, beach volleyball, rock climbing, bubble activities, arts and crafts, lawn games, a vendor market, barbecue fundraiser, foam party, and a show and shine.

Community competitions add another layer of fun, with baking and preserves, photography, arts and crafts, colouring, scavenger hunts and the popular Top Chef Challenge. Entries for competitions must be submitted by 12 p.m.

The day wraps up with awards and prize presentations at 4 p.m., recognizing competition winners and community participation.

Whether you're looking to compete, browse the market, enjoy lunch with friends or simply spend the day outdoors with family, Hudson Township's Day in the Park offers plenty of reasons to make the trip.

The hunt is on!

One of the featured activities leading up to Hudson Township's Day in the Park is now underway, inviting families and friends to explore the township one clue at a time.

The Community Scavenger Hunt begins with a single clue. Once participants solve it and arrive at the correct location, they'll discover the next clue waiting for them. Each stop leads to the next, guiding hunters through 11 locations across the township as they collect 14 mystery words needed to unscramble a secret sentence for a chance to win.

The adventure begins with this first challenge:

"One step can put you in Hudson, another in Kerns, a third in Harley and a fourth in Temiskaming Shores. Find the intersection that makes this possible."

All clues are attached to 911 address posts, and participants are asked to respect private property while searching. If a clue is missing or damaged, organizers ask that it be reported so it can be replaced.

Completed entries must be submitted by 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, during Day in the Park at Pike Lake Park.

The scavenger hunt is just one of many activities planned for the community celebration, giving participants a fun way to discover Hudson Township before gathering for the festivities on August 1.

A new youth baseball tournament is hoping to become a Labour Day weekend tradition in Earlton.

The first-ever Northern Showdowns Youth Championship will take place September 4 to 6 at the Earlton Ball Diamond, bringing together teams of players aged 14 to 17.

The tournament will feature co-ed, all-boys and all-girls divisions, along with a home run derby and a 50/50 draw. Organizers say their goal is to create an annual event that attracts young athletes, families and visitors to the community for years to come.

As the inaugural tournament, organizers are encouraging the community to help make it a success by registering teams, spreading the word and supporting the event.

The municipal fire ban has been lifted in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Open-air fires are once again permitted, and burning permits are now available. Residents are reminded to continue using caution when burning outdoors and to follow all municipal fire regulations.

Road closures will be in effect in downtown New Liskeard from Friday, July 24, to Saturday, July 25 to accommodate the New Liskeard BIA Block Party.

Sections of Whitewood Avenue, Armstrong Street and Wellington Street will be closed from 7 a.m. Friday until approximately 5 p.m. Saturday. Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the event is underway.

The City thanks residents for their patience and cooperation as the community comes together to celebrate the annual Block Party.

A precautionary boil water advisory will be in effect for Englehart beginning Monday, July 20, while work is completed at the Town's Water Treatment Plant.

Residents should bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth or making ice. The advisory will remain in effect until the Town of Englehart and Northeastern Public Health announce it has been lifted.

Registration is now open for the 2026 Baby Contest, taking place Saturday, September 19 at 11:00 AM on the Entertainment Stage inside the Horne Granite Curling Club.

The contest is open to babies from newborn to 12 months old, born between September 1, 2025 and August 31, 2026. Registration is required by August 31, with prizes awarded at the end of the contest.
