If you've been thinking about adding a dog to your family, now might be the perfect time to meet your new best friend.

The local animal shelter is currently caring for a number of dogs looking for loving homes, from playful puppies to adult companions with plenty of love to give. Among those available for adoption are Leo, a seven-year-old Husky; White Cloud, a young Malamute; Bandit, a Bully Mix; Jade, a Husky/Collie puppy; and Nova, a Malamute/Canadian Eskimo/Husky mix. More adoptable dogs are also waiting to meet their future families.

Every dog has its own personality and story, but they all have one thing in common: they're looking for a place to call home.

If one of these dogs catches your eye, contact the sanctuay to learn more about the adoption process. Even if you're not looking to adopt, sharing the post with family and friends could help one of these deserving dogs find the home they're waiting for.

Pavilion Women's Centre is inviting both past clients and community members to share their feedback through a new anonymous survey.

If you've stayed at the emergency shelter, received outreach support, attended a program or accessed any of the centre's services, your input will help identify what's working, where improvements can be made and how services can continue to meet the needs of women and children in our community.

The survey also asks for community feedback on the need for Second Stage Housing, with responses helping guide future planning, funding applications and local advocacy efforts.

All responses are anonymous, and everyone is encouraged to take a few minutes to participate.

A seal point coloured cat was found in Haileybury on Thursday, July 30, and is currently being cared for at the City Animal Pound. The cat was not wearing a collar and does not have a microchip.

If you believe this may be your cat, contact the City of Temiskaming Shores as soon as possible to arrange identification and reclaim your pet.

The Temagami Lions Club Flea Market returns August 1 to 3, offering antiques, collectibles, household items and other unique finds throughout the weekend.

Browse the vendors while supporting the Temagami Lions Club and the community projects it funds. Saturday hours are 2 to 7 p.m., with the market open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday.

Elk Lake's Civic Holiday Weekend runs July 31 to August 3, featuring baseball tournaments, live music, fireworks and family activities throughout the weekend.

Visitors can also enjoy face painting, a foam party, bounce castle, food vendors and more, with activities for all ages.

Temiskaming Transit will operate regular service on Friday, July 31, and Tuesday, August 4, with weekend service in effect on August 1, 2 and 3.

On the weekend service days, the last bus leaves Walmart at 9:20 p.m. and arrives in Cobalt at 10 p.m.

Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen is offering pony rides on Saturday Aug1st, Sunday closed, Monday Aug 3rd from 12 to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. during the long weekend.

For $7, children receive a pony ride and an animal feed cone for the petting farm. The farm is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Monday, and closed Sunday.

The Temiskaming Shores Public Library is inviting children ages 3 to 12 to take part in its TD Summer Reading Club Colouring Contest.

The contest runs from July 22 to August 12, with first-place prizes awarded in each age category. Pick up a colouring sheet at the library and submit your entry before the deadline.

The Northern Ontario Art Association's 69th Annual Juried Exhibition is on display at the Museum of Northern History in Kirkland Lake from July 17 to August 15.

An opening reception will be held Saturday, July 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. Admission to the reception is a coin donation at the door.
