Haileybury Legion’s 100th Anniversary Will Be One Big Summer Party

A century of community memories is about to be celebrated in a big way this July.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54 is gearing up for its 100th anniversary celebration with five days of events planned from July 14 to 18, including concerts, entertainment, and community gatherings.
One of the biggest highlights will be four arena events featuring tribute bands and performers including Hotel California, ABBA Gold, Eric Leclerc, and In The Flesh: A Tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Organizers say limited arena passes are now available, giving attendees access to all four shows for one price.

Notre-Dame-du-Nord Residents Asked About Interest in Pickleball Courts

Notre-Dame-du-Nord residents are being asked to weigh in on a possible new recreational addition for the community.
A local survey posted by the municipality is gathering feedback on whether residents would be interested in playing pickleball if courts were added to the concrete rink surface currently used for ice during the winter season.
Community members can respond by commenting directly on the Facebook post, sharing whether they would play regularly, occasionally, or simply want to support the idea.
Pickleball continues to grow rapidly across Canada, especially in smaller communities looking for fun, social, and accessible outdoor activities during the warmer months.

New Liskeard Drivers Can Help the Hospital Just by Taking a Test Drive

Wilson Ford New Liskeard is teaming up with the Temiskaming Hospital Foundation for a one day fundraising event aimed at supporting local healthcare in the community.
The “Drive For Your Community” event will take place on June 11th from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Wilson Ford in New Liskeard. For every vehicle test drive completed during the event, Ford will donate $30 to the Temiskaming Hospital Foundation.
Residents are invited to stop by, test drive Ford’s latest lineup of vehicles, meet the dealership team, and connect with members of the hospital foundation to learn more about healthcare initiatives happening locally.
In smaller communities, events like this show how local businesses and organizations can work together to support important services close to home.

New Program Aims to Help Temiskaming Entrepreneurs Grow Faster

A new free business support program is launching for entrepreneurs across the Temiskaming region looking to strengthen and grow their businesses during those critical early years.
The Incub’Action program is designed for entrepreneurs who have launched a business within the last two years or are currently finalizing a project for the region. Participants will receive personalized action plans, mentoring, networking opportunities, and monthly training workshops aimed at helping businesses build stronger foundations and accelerate growth.
The program will support entrepreneurs in Temiskaming Shores, Kirkland Lake, and surrounding northern communities, with services offered in both English and French.
An online information session is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27 at 6 p.m. EDT.
For many small business owners, one of the hardest parts is figuring everything out alone during the first couple of years. Programs like this can help connect entrepreneurs with the tools, support, and local network needed to keep moving forward.

🚱 Water Flushing and Boil Water Advisory Underway in Notre-Dame-du-Nord
Residents in Notre-Dame-du-Nord are being advised that aqueduct flushing will take place May 19–22 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., which may cause temporary pressure drops, cloudy water, or brief service interruptions. A boil water advisory is in effect as a precaution while the maintenance work is completed.
🚒 Temiskaming Shores Hiring Fire Chief
The City of Temiskaming Shores is currently seeking a full time permanent Fire Chief to lead and manage the municipal Fire Department.
The position offers a salary range of $118,055 to $138,888 annually based on a 35 hour work week. Qualified candidates are asked to submit a resume and cover letter quoting Competition No. 2026-015.
The application deadline is May 29, 2026.

Municipalité de Notre Dame du Nord is looking for volunteers to spend time with elderly residents and help reduce isolation in the community. Even a simple visit or conversation can make a meaningful difference.

⛏️ Cobalt Mining Museum Reopening May 22
The Cobalt Mining Museum will reopen for the season on Friday, May 22. During May and June, the museum will operate Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Expanded summer hours begin in July and August with daily admission from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, including underground mine tours running daily throughout the summer season.
💚 Zack’s Crib Homeless Prevention Fund — Grant Deadline Approaching
Applications are now being accepted for the Zack’s Crib Homeless Prevention Fund, with grants available for community projects up to $15,000.
Organizations interested in applying can find guidelines and application forms through the Temiskaming Foundation website. The application deadline is May 31.

🌳 Recreation Operations Update — Temiskaming Shores
The City of Temiskaming Shores has released a seasonal recreation update as some spring openings have been delayed due to weather conditions and a late spring.
The Rotary Splash Pad and One Foot Forward Spray Zone are now scheduled to open May 29. Sweeping and bollard installation along the STATO Trail is expected to be completed by May 22.
Outdoor washrooms are expected to open by May 11, while sport courts and playgrounds are already open and available for public use. The City says it appreciates residents’ patience as crews continue preparing facilities for the season.
