Garlic Fest - Riverside Farmers’ Market, Riverside Place | 8:00 AM-12:00 PM | Shop for fresh local garlic and garlic-inspired goods while kids plant their own garlic to take home.

Fall Planter Workshop - The Greenhaus | 10am | Create a fall planter using your choice of annuals and perennials, with the container, fresh soil, advice and instruction provided. Cost: $60. Payment reserves your spot.

What Exactly Is a Men's Shed?
You may have noticed Men's Shed Temiskaming listed on the City's Age Friendly calendar and wondered what exactly that means.
Despite the name, it isn't necessarily a bunch of guys sitting around in an actual shed.
Men's Sheds are part of a movement built around a fairly simple idea: give men somewhere to go, something meaningful to do and an opportunity to spend time with other men.
The activities vary from one community to another. Some groups work on building and repair projects, while others develop their own activities based on the interests of the men involved. The emphasis is as much on the conversation and connections that happen along the way as it is on whatever project may be underway.
Men's Sheds Ontario says the groups can be particularly valuable for men looking to reconnect with their community after retirement. Members may learn something new, pass along skills they've accumulated over the years or simply enjoy the company.
And there is one right here in Temiskaming Shores.
Men's Shed Temiskaming returns Wednesday, September 2 at 2 p.m. at the Haileybury Legion following an August break. It's part of the City's All Age Friendly programming and will also meet September 16 and 30.
For someone who has seen "Men's Shed" on the calendar but never really understood what it was, September might be a good time to find out.

What Do You Know About Northern Ontario?

Northern Ontario Travel wants to hear what people know and think about travelling in the North.
Residents and visitors are invited to complete the 2026 Northern Ontario Travel Survey, sharing their perspective on a region that stretches across hundreds of communities, including our part of Northeastern Ontario.
As an added incentive, everyone who completes the survey can enter for a chance to win a YETI cooler packed with Northern Ontario goodies valued at more than $2,000.
The survey was launched August 27. Northern Ontario Travel has not listed a closing date on its contest page, so anyone interested may want to complete it sooner rather than later.
Garlic Fest This Saturday

The Riverside Farmers’ Market is celebrating Garlic Fest on Saturday, September 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at Riverside Place.
Shop for fresh local garlic and garlic-inspired goodies from market vendors. Kids can also take part in a hands-on activity where they’ll plant their own garlic to take home.

Free Fall Prevention Program

Timiskaming Home Support is offering STAND UP!, a free 12-week exercise program for older adults looking to stay active, improve balance and help prevent falls.
Classes run Mondays and Fridays from 1 to 2 p.m., September 21 to December 14, at the Shelley Herbert-Shea Memorial Arena in Haileybury. Certified trainers lead the sessions and provide exercises participants can also do at home.
Registration includes a short interview and free assessment to determine eligibility. Sessions are currently offered in English.

The program is funded and facilitated by Timiskaming Home Support in partnership with the City of Temiskaming Shores.
🏛️ City Hall Closing Briefly
Temiskaming Shores City Hall, including the Provincial Offences Office, will be temporarily closed on Thursday, September 3, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Residents planning to visit City Hall that day are asked to plan around the brief closure.
🧩 Puzzle Exchange Coming to the Library
The Temiskaming Shores Public Library is collecting gently used, complete puzzles from August 31 to September 19 for an upcoming community Puzzle Exchange. For every accepted puzzle, donors will receive one voucher, with a limit of five puzzles per household.
Puzzle Swap Day is Saturday, September 26, with voucher holders choosing puzzles from noon to 2 p.m. The exchange opens to everyone from 2 to 3 p.m., when remaining puzzles can be picked up without a voucher.
💻 Digital Literacy Sessions
The Temiskaming Shores Public Library offers Digital Literacy Sessions on Thursdays by appointment for anyone looking for help using a smartphone, tablet or laptop.
Residents can get one-on-one assistance and learn more about using their devices. To book a session or get more information, call 705-647-4215.
🎯 Washer League Meeting
Anyone interested in joining a Washer League is invited to an information meeting at Coeur du Village in Earlton on Tuesday, September 8 at 7 p.m.
The meeting will discuss plans for the league, and everyone interested in playing is welcome to attend.
