From Haileybury To Ontario Airwaves
Haileybury singer-songwriter Makinna Givens continues to build momentum on the Canadian country music scene, earning a spot on Country 102's Fresh Picks program with her latest single, Cheap Cigarettes.
The weekly feature showcases emerging Ontario country artists and introduces listeners across the province to rising talent. For Givens, it's the latest milestone in a career that has been steadily gaining attention well beyond Temiskaming Shores.
In recent years, Givens was named a Top 4 finalist in the national Country Rising Contest, performed at Toronto's Winter Roots Music Festival, and was selected as a Field Pick Emerging Artist at Lucknow's Music in the Fields festival.
Beyond performing, Givens is also an audio engineer and producer who plays an active role in creating her own music. Her latest single has also received airplay on SiriusXM's Top of the Country channel.
For local music fans, it's another reminder that one of Northern Ontario's rising country artists is continuing to find new audiences across Canada.
