From Cobalt Mines To War Zones

Pic Credit: Louie Palu

Before documenting war in Afghanistan and Ukraine, the drug war in Mexico, and geopolitics in the Arctic, internationally acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Louie Palu was telling stories much closer to home.

More than 20 years after his last Northern Ontario appearance, Palu will return to Cobalt on Tuesday, June 23 for a public lecture at the Cobalt Mining Museum.

Palu first came to the region while creating a visual record of mining communities across Northern Ontario and Quebec. That work later became the books Cage Call and Industrial Cathedrals of the North, both created in collaboration with Charlie Angus.

Organizers say the evening will feature photographs, stories, and conversation reflecting on mining communities and the work that launched Palu’s internationally recognized career.

The lecture begins at 6:00 p.m. and will include a question-and-answer session.

More about Palu’s Cage Call project can be found here: The Image Centre Exhibition Page
