Water Service Repair to Impact Whitewood Avenue Thursday

Residents in New Liskeard are being advised of a temporary water service disruption on Thursday, May 14 due to scheduled repair work on Whitewood Avenue.

According to the City of Temiskaming Shores, water service will be shut off from 8 am to 12 pm for residents affected by the repair.

Whitewood Avenue will also be closed between Edith Street and Scott Street during the work, with crews expected to be on site from 7 am to 3 pm.

City officials say the repairs are necessary to address a water service issue and are asking residents for patience while crews complete the work safely and efficiently.

Electra Awards New Construction Contract for Refinery Project

Electra Battery Materials has announced another major step forward for its cobalt refinery project in the Temiskaming region.

According to a company press release, Electra has awarded a $25 million construction package to WB Melback Corporation to complete the solvent extraction building at its refinery site in Cobalt. The work includes structural steel, piping, electrical integration, and civil construction connected to the refinery’s processing circuit.

Electra says contractors and skilled trades are already mobilized on site as the company continues moving toward refinery commissioning in 2027. Company officials also stated the project remains aligned with budget and schedule expectations.

The refinery is expected to play a key role in strengthening North America’s battery materials supply chain and supporting continued economic activity in the region.

Electra Awards Solvent Extraction Construction Package

Aqueduct Flushing and Boil Water Advisory Scheduled This Week in Notre-Dame-du-Nord

The Municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Nord is advising residents that aqueduct network flushing will take place Tuesday, May 19 through Friday, May 22, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

During this maintenance work, residents may experience:

• Temporary drops in water pressure
• Short service interruptions
• Cloudy or discoloured water

As a precaution, residents are advised to boil water intended for consumption until further notice.

The municipality is also asking residents to limit water use during daytime flushing hours. If water appears cloudy in the evening, residents are encouraged to let it run until it clears.

As an added precaution, residents should avoid washing light coloured clothing or laundry during the flushing period.

The Municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Nord thanks residents for their patience and understanding while this maintenance work is completed.

🚱 Water Flushing and Boil Water Advisory Underway in Notre-Dame-du-Nord

Residents in Notre-Dame-du-Nord are being advised that aqueduct flushing will take place May 19–22 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., which may cause temporary pressure drops, cloudy water, or brief service interruptions. A boil water advisory is in effect as a precaution while the maintenance work is completed.

🌱 Community Garden Boxes Available — Waterfront Pool & Fitness Centre

The Waterfront Pool & Fitness Centre has community garden boxes available for the season. Residents interested in reserving a garden box can call 705 647 5709.

The gardens offer a chance to grow vegetables, herbs, or flowers while enjoying a shared community space by the waterfront. The initiative is supported by several local community sponsors.

🌳 Recreation Operations Update — Temiskaming Shores

The City of Temiskaming Shores has released a seasonal recreation update as some spring openings have been delayed due to weather conditions and a late spring.

The Rotary Splash Pad and One Foot Forward Spray Zone are now scheduled to open May 29. Sweeping and bollard installation along the STATO Trail is expected to be completed by May 22.

Outdoor washrooms are expected to open by May 11, while sport courts and playgrounds are already open and available for public use. The City says it appreciates residents’ patience as crews continue preparing facilities for the season.

🎿 Temiskaming Nordic Ski Club AGM — May 13

The Temiskaming Nordic Ski Club is hosting its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, May 13 at 7:00 PM at the TNSC Chalet. All members are welcome to attend. Agenda items include volunteer awards, budget updates, director reports, by-law changes, fee increases, and discussion around dogs on trails.

📄 Armstrong Township Tender Opportunities — Bids Due May 14

The Township of Armstrong has released tender documents for two projects: Gravel Supply, Haul and Placement (2026-03) and Ditching Services (2026-04). Interested contractors are invited to review the details and submit bids by May 14, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Full information is available on the Township’s website.

⚓ Docking Facility RFQ — Temagami (Deadline May 15)

he Municipality of Temagami is inviting quotations for the construction, fabrication, and installation of floating and fixed docking facilities at the Cassels Lake Access Point. RFQ documents are available at temagami.ca under Bids and Tenders.
