The community is invited to come together in Haileybury later this month for Cam’s Walk for Overdose Awareness, a day dedicated to remembrance, awareness and connection.

The walk takes place Saturday, August 29, in memory of Cameron Metson-Stewart and all those whose lives have been impacted by substance use and overdose.

Sign-in begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Haileybury Tennis Court, 430 Morissette Drive, followed by an opening speech and the start of the walk at 11 a.m. Participation is free, with two routes available for those taking part.

The gathering continues after the walk at Cam’s Corner on Carter Boulevard, where participants can take part in the Ribbon Remembrance Project and chalk art, visit Resource Row and stop by a pay-as-you-please lemonade stand. Free water will also be available.

Organizers are encouraging participants who are able to bring a non-perishable food item or hygiene product to support local food banks.

Cam’s Walk is an opportunity to remember those who have been lost, support those affected by substance use and overdose and bring the community together around an issue that has touched many families.

Earlton’s Dida’s is coming home from this weekend’s Foire Gourmande with some new hardware.

Dida’s was named the Best Bite of 2026 at the Foire Gourmande de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue et du Nord-Est Ontarien, held August 14 to 16 in Ville-Marie. The annual festival celebrates food and producers from both sides of the Ontario-Quebec border, with Dida’s among the Northeastern Ontario exhibitors taking part this year.

The Earlton restaurant described it as a great weekend, with a new festival location, a strong atmosphere and plenty of bites served.

Dida’s also thanked the organizing committee, volunteers, fellow exhibitors, its own crew and everyone who stopped by throughout the weekend.

The award is a pretty special accomplishment for a small restaurant from Earlton competing at a festival built around showcasing some of the best food and local ingredients from across Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Northeastern Ontario and Quebec.

And if all this talk about the winning bite has made you hungry, Dida’s says they'll be back at the restaurant and recommends making a reservation before heading in.

The Temiskaming Shores Public Library offers Digital Literacy Sessions on Thursdays by appointment for anyone looking for help using a smartphone, tablet or laptop.

Residents can get one-on-one assistance and learn more about using their devices. To book a session or get more information, call 705-647-4215.

Anyone interested in joining a Washer League is invited to an information meeting at Coeur du Village in Earlton on Tuesday, September 8 at 7 p.m.

The meeting will discuss plans for the league, and everyone interested in playing is welcome to attend.

The New Liskeard Lions Club is selling tickets for its Butchers Raffle, with proceeds supporting Northern Hospice Care.

Tickets are $10 for a chance to win the grand prize of a hind quarter of beef from Yves Prime Cuts with a freezer from The Brick, or the second prize of a side of pork from Yves Prime Cuts. Tickets will be available at at Walmart on August 27.

The Cobalt Silver Nugget Race takes place Sunday, August 23 at 2 p.m. at Tina’s Trail in Cobalt, and there’s still time to get your nugget in the race.

Tickets are $10, with a $1,500 jackpot up for grabs. Each ticket represents one silver nugget, with 10 heats leading to a final race to determine the winner based on how far the nugget rolls. Tickets are available at the Cobalt Mining Museum.

The Branch 54 Haileybury Legion is inviting everyone who volunteered during its 100th anniversary celebrations to a special appreciation gathering at The Miners Tavern, 75 Lang Street in Cobalt, on Sunday, August 30 at 6 p.m.

The evening is a chance to celebrate the volunteers, teamwork and community effort that helped make the Legion's Centennial celebrations possible. Volunteers are asked to RSVP by commenting on the original Facebook post.
