Walmart Reopening Helps Local Students

Pic Credit: DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD ONTARIO NORTH EAST
A celebration at Walmart in Temiskaming Shores brought more than a fresh start for the store. It also brought a $1,000 donation to help feed local students.
During its recent grand reopening and ribbon-cutting ceremony, Walmart presented the donation to New Liskeard Public School's Food and Nutrition Program.
The program provides healthy snacks to students throughout the school day, helping ensure children have access to food so they can focus on learning.
Walmart Assistant Manager Gina explained that the school was selected from several applications because supporting local children was important to the store.
The celebration brought together Walmart staff, regional management and community guests, including the mayor and Monica Jarabek, Acting Vice Principal of New Liskeard Public School.
For the school, donations like this help keep healthy snacks available to students while reducing barriers to learning.
The $1,000 contribution will support a program that makes a difference in students' everyday school experience.
Lions Give $7,000 for Rescue

A $7,000 donation from the New Liskeard Lions Club will help Haileybury firefighters work toward adding a rescue snowmobile to their equipment.

The photo shows Lions member Ron Prestage and club president Patrick Smits with Haileybury firefighters Lawrence Pye and Captain Kevin Hallworth.
The donation is intended for the rescue snow machine. The announcement did not provide its total cost or an expected delivery date.
