An Afternoon Just For Seniors

Looking for a chance to enjoy good food, friendly competition, and even better company?

The City of Temiskaming Shores is inviting seniors to a free Games & BBQ on Friday, July 17, at the New Liskeard Waterfront beside the Rotary Splash Pad.

Running from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the gathering is designed to bring seniors together for a relaxed afternoon by the lake. A complimentary lunch will be served, along with a variety of lawn games including cornhole, Texas horseshoes, Kubb, disc golf, and more.

Whether you're hoping to meet new people, reconnect with friends, or simply enjoy a summer afternoon outdoors, organizers say everyone is welcome.

The event is free to attend and is part of the City's ongoing efforts to create opportunities for seniors to stay active, social, and connected within the community.

Know someone who would enjoy a free lunch and a fun afternoon by the waterfront? Invite them to join you on July 17 and spend a couple of hours making new memories together.

Local Bands Take Centre Stage

North On Tap isn't just about craft beer. It's also becoming one of the biggest showcases for local music in Northern Ontario.

Festival organizers have unveiled this year's lineup of homegrown performers, with artists from across the region set to entertain crowds throughout the weekend. The lineup includes Sierra Jessi, Pipes and Drums, 4 Wayz North, The Allair Boys, Jazz Church, Mud Dogs, Suddenly Found, and Radio Daze.

By featuring local musicians alongside local breweries and food vendors, North On Tap continues to highlight the people and businesses that help define Northern Ontario's culture.

Whether you're discovering a new favourite band or cheering on familiar faces from your own community, the festival promises a weekend filled with live entertainment, great food, and local craft beverages on the Haileybury waterfront.

Who are you most excited to see perform? Check out the full music schedule, make your plans, and come support Northern Ontario's talented local musicians at North On Tap.

Cheer On The Northern Loons

Two of the Temiskaming Northern Loons Swim Club's young athletes are representing the region this week at the Ontario Swimming Championships, competing against many of the province's fastest youth swimmers.

Jada and Colton qualified to compete at the provincial championships in Toronto after outstanding performances throughout the season. Over the three-day competition, they'll race in a variety of freestyle and backstroke events while testing themselves against top swimmers from clubs across Ontario.

For family, friends, and supporters back home, every race can be watched live online through the championship webcast.

Whether you're a longtime supporter of the Northern Loons or simply enjoy cheering on local athletes competing on the provincial stage, it's a chance to watch two Temiskaming swimmers proudly represent their community.

Tune in, cheer them on from home, and help show Jada and Colton that all of Temiskaming is behind them.

If you are a coach of a team that would like to have their team scores and highlight shared with the community please reach out to [email protected] and lets connect.

Help Shape Rural Ontario

Pic Credit: Hear Initiative

What if spending a few minutes answering a survey could help influence decisions that affect rural communities for years to come?

Researchers at the University of Guelph are inviting residents across rural Ontario to participate in the Health, Economic, and Adaptation in Rural Communities (HEAR) Initiative, a long-term research project examining life outside the province's major urban centres.

The survey asks about topics including health, housing, employment, community well-being, and how rural communities are adapting to environmental changes. Researchers say the information will help create a publicly available dataset that can support future planning, policy development, and funding decisions.

For communities like ours, the survey offers an opportunity to ensure rural experiences are reflected in research that often shapes government priorities.

Participants who complete the survey will also have the chance to win an iPad.

Consider taking a few minutes to complete the survey and share it with friends and neighbours. The more local voices included, the stronger the picture of rural Ontario will be.

🎨 Signs and Symbols From the Boreal — Sue Gamble Exhibition
