Last Day for Christmas in July
Today is the final day to take advantage of the Christmas in July sale at the Temiskaming Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop.
All clothing is 20% off as the boutique makes room for new seasonal arrivals. It's also one last chance to discover the hidden shop we've featured over the past few weeks—where every purchase continues supporting local healthcare right here in Temiskaming.

Christmas in July Sale - The Temiskaming Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop | 9:30-11:30 AM & 1:30-4:00 PM | Save 20% on clothing during this 2nd and last day of the Christmas in July sale while supporting local healthcare through every purchase.
3-on-3 Ball Hockey Tournament - Charlton Outdoor Rink | August 22nd | Teams compete in U-11, U-15 and U-18 divisions during this youth ball hockey tournament. Registration is $250 per team and closes July 29.
Art in the Park | Haileybury Harbour Place | 6:00-8:00 PM | Browse local artists, artisans and sweet treats while enjoying live music from Dan + Friends and Julie Preston. This week's community table features the Classic Theatre Cobalt.

Hot Summer Nights - Townsite Arena | 5:30-7:30 PM | Cool off with the Temagami Fire Department at Townsite Arena, 100 Spruce Dr., for an evening of family fun. The concession stand will be open with snacks and refreshments.

Beach Volleyball Tournament - Pike Lake Park, Hudson Township | Games start at 10:00 AM | Gather your team for a day of beach volleyball, friendly competition and prize draws. Teams must register in advance, and all players must be 12 or older.
Pawlicious Fresh Foods Grand Opening | 10 Armstrong St., New Liskeard | Celebrate the official grand opening of Pawlicious Fresh Foods with giveaways, free samples, in-store promotions and more as the locally owned pet food store welcomes the community.
Aug 6th
Protect Our Lakes Against Aquatic Invasive Species | Haileybury Boat Launch | 12:00-2:00 PM | Learn how to help protect local waterways with boat washing demonstrations, invasive species identification tips and free educational resources. Bring your boat for a cleaning demonstration.
Aug 12th
Corn Roast Fundraiser | Coeur du Village, 18-10E St., Earlton | 5:00-7:00 PM | Enjoy fresh corn on the cob for $2 each, with beverages available for purchase, while supporting a Coeur du Village fundraiser.
Aug 13th
Colour Ride - Pool & Fitness Centre, 77 Wellington St. | 3:00-5:00 PM | Bike or walk 2 km along the STATO Trail while passing through colourful powder stations. Pre-registration is required and helmets are mandatory.

Celebrating Local Champions

More than 50 local Special Olympics athletes were recognized for their accomplishments during a celebration banquet held on July 27.
Athletes from the New Liskeard Special Olympics program were honoured for their participation in bowling, T-ball, track and field, and swimming, while volunteers were also recognized for the time and dedication they invest to make the programs possible.

The evening also included exciting news for the organization, with bocce announced as a new team sport that will launch this fall, creating another opportunity for athletes to stay active and connected.
One of the evening's biggest celebrations was reserved for local swimmer Kayla Marwick, who will represent the region at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta, from August 9 to 16.

Kayla will compete in the 200-metre butterfly, 50-metre freestyle, 50-metre backstroke and 50-metre butterfly. She is also hoping to earn a spot on Team Ontario's relay team.
Kayla was also recently elected to the Special Olympics Ontario Athlete Leadership Council, giving local athletes a voice at the provincial level while continuing to compete at the highest levels of the organization.

The New Liskeard Special Olympics program is always looking for volunteers to help support athletes throughout the year. Those interested can learn more by visiting the New Liskeard Special Olympics Facebook page.

Bring Your Boat

Boat owners will have a chance to protect Lake Temiskaming while learning proper decontamination techniques during a free educational event in Haileybury.
Ozero Solutions will host a workshop on Thursday, August 6, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Haileybury Boat Launch, located between Harbour Place and City Hall.
Participants are encouraged to bring their boats to watch live boat cleaning demonstrations and learn how proper decontamination can help stop the spread of aquatic invasive species between lakes and waterways.

The event will also cover how to identify and report invasive species, along with practical resources to help protect local aquatic ecosystems.
The workshop is free and open to everyone, whether you're an experienced boater or simply interested in keeping Lake Temiskaming healthy for future generations.

🚌 Holiday Transit Schedule
Temiskaming Transit will operate regular service on Friday, July 31, and Tuesday, August 4, with weekend service in effect on August 1, 2 and 3.
On the weekend service days, the last bus leaves Walmart at 9:20 p.m. and arrives in Cobalt at 10 p.m.
🎨 Summer Reading Colouring Contest
The Temiskaming Shores Public Library is inviting children ages 3 to 12 to take part in its TD Summer Reading Club Colouring Contest.
The contest runs from July 22 to August 12, with first-place prizes awarded in each age category. Pick up a colouring sheet at the library and submit your entry before the deadline.
🎨 Juried Art Exhibition Opens
The Northern Ontario Art Association's 69th Annual Juried Exhibition is on display at the Museum of Northern History in Kirkland Lake from July 17 to August 15.
An opening reception will be held Saturday, July 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. Admission to the reception is a coin donation at the door.
🐺 Northern Alumni Giveaway
Northern College alumni who sign up for Alumni Perks by September 1, 2026 will be entered for a chance to win a Sleeping with the Wolves getaway at Cedar Meadows in Timmins.
The prize includes a one-night stay in the Sleeping with the Wolves cabin and a $150 gift card for Cedar Meadows Steakhouse. Alumni can register through the Northern College Alumni Perks program before the deadline.
