Got A Funny Dad Story?

Pic Credit: Sam’s Grill

Sam’s Grill is inviting the community to celebrate Father’s Day with a contest focused on the funniest dad moments families can remember.

Residents are being asked to share the funniest thing their dad has ever said or done, whether it’s a legendary dad joke, a BBQ disaster, or one of those classic moments the family still laughs about years later.

The three stories with the most likes will each win a free Sam’s Grill combo meal for Dad ahead of Father’s Day weekend.

Winners will be announced before Father’s Day on June 20.

Residents can enter by sharing their story on the Sam’s Grill contest post here: Sam’s Grill Facebook Contest Post

BIA Wants Downtown Graffiti Gone

The Downtown New Liskeard BIA is launching a new Graffiti Removal Program aimed at helping local businesses clean up vandalism while making the downtown core feel more welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

The program includes a dedicated $5,000 annual fund that will reimburse eligible businesses up to $500 per building for graffiti removal costs.

According to BIA Chair Mark Lavallee, the issue right now is not necessarily a sudden increase in new graffiti, but rather older graffiti that has remained visible throughout parts of the downtown area.

“Right now, our main challenge is dealing with a backlog of older graffiti rather than a sudden wave of new vandalism,” Lavallee told Tri Town Today. “Our current goal is to work together to clean up these older spots and refresh our shared spaces.”

The initiative was inspired by successful cleanup programs used in other communities, but the Downtown New Liskeard BIA added its own local approach by offering full reimbursement coverage up to $500.

“To show how committed we are to our neighbors, the Downtown New Liskeard BIA is one of the only organizations offering 100% coverage for removal expenses up to $500,” said Lavallee.

The BIA says quick graffiti removal is one of the most effective ways to discourage future vandalism while improving the overall appearance of the downtown core.

Lavallee also emphasized that graffiti is not a victimless crime.

“When a building is defaced, it puts an unfair financial and emotional burden on the independent business owners and landlords who keep our downtown vibrant,” he said. “When public property is damaged, the cleanup bills are paid by all of us as local ratepayers.”

Funding for the program comes directly from the BIA levy collected from properties located within the Downtown New Liskeard BIA boundary.

The larger goal, according to the BIA, is to build community pride, encourage more pedestrian traffic, and help create a downtown that feels vibrant and inviting.

For the first year of the program, the BIA says success would mean fully using the available funding while removing a significant portion of graffiti throughout the downtown area.

The program covers:

  • graffiti cleaning and washing

  • repainting

  • surface replacement

  • graffiti removal materials

  • professional graffiti removal services

Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis for work completed within the past six months.

Businesses located within the Downtown New Liskeard BIA boundary can apply after graffiti removal work has been completed by submitting before-and-after photos along with receipts or paid invoices.

For more information or to request an application form, businesses can contact BIA Coordinator Tiffany White at [email protected] or call 705-648-4044.
