Fall Planter Workshop - The Greenhaus | 10am | Create a fall planter using your choice of annuals and perennials, with the container, fresh soil, advice and instruction provided. Cost: $60. Payment reserves your spot.

What Exactly Is a Men's Shed?
You may have noticed Men's Shed Temiskaming listed on the City's Age Friendly calendar and wondered what exactly that means.
Despite the name, it isn't necessarily a bunch of guys sitting around in an actual shed.
Men's Sheds are part of a movement built around a fairly simple idea: give men somewhere to go, something meaningful to do and an opportunity to spend time with other men.
The activities vary from one community to another. Some groups work on building and repair projects, while others develop their own activities based on the interests of the men involved. The emphasis is as much on the conversation and connections that happen along the way as it is on whatever project may be underway.
Men's Sheds Ontario says the groups can be particularly valuable for men looking to reconnect with their community after retirement. Members may learn something new, pass along skills they've accumulated over the years or simply enjoy the company.
And there is one right here in Temiskaming Shores.
Men's Shed Temiskaming returns Wednesday, September 2 at 2 p.m. at the Haileybury Legion following an August break. It's part of the City's All Age Friendly programming and will also meet September 16 and 30.
For someone who has seen "Men's Shed" on the calendar but never really understood what it was, September might be a good time to find out.

Youth Bowling Registration Opens

Kids looking to try a new sport and meet some new friends can hit the lanes this fall at Tri-Town Bowling Lanes.
Registration for Youth Bowling Canada will take place in person September 2, 3 and 4 after 4 p.m., with the first day of bowling scheduled for Sunday, September 13.
Sunday morning programs begin at 9:30 a.m. for children ages 4 to 10 and 11 a.m. for youth ages 11 to 19.
Certified coaches will be available to help young bowlers learn and improve, equipment is provided and there will be weekly prizes. Participants can also work toward house tournaments, with opportunities to advance to travelling competitions for bowlers ages 5 to 19.
Registration is $75 plus the cost of weekly games.

Local High Schools Welcome Students Back

The first day of school arrives Tuesday, September 1, and both local high schools are planning a little something extra to welcome students back.
At Timiskaming District Secondary School, students in Grades 7 and 9 will begin the year with a First Day of School BBQ and activities, weather permitting.
It’s the beginning of a busy September at TDSS, with Students’ Council already planning several activities throughout the month, including House Colours Day, a club fair, Black Shirt Day, Denim Day and the annual Terry Fox Walk.

Over at École secondaire catholique Sainte-Marie, the return to school will be staggered depending on grade.
Students in Grades 7 and 8 return Tuesday, September 1 from 8:45 a.m. to 2:55 p.m., while Grade 9 students attend from 8:45 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. A snack and pizza lunch will be provided for students in Grades 7, 8 and 9.
Students in Grades 10, 11 and 12 return Wednesday, September 2, with the regular school day running from 8:45 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.
Whether it's a BBQ at TDSS or pizza at ESCSM, both schools are giving some of their newest students a chance to start the 2026-27 school year with a little food, fun and an opportunity to reconnect with classmates and meet new ones.
🏛️ City Hall Closing Briefly
Temiskaming Shores City Hall, including the Provincial Offences Office, will be temporarily closed on Thursday, September 3, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Residents planning to visit City Hall that day are asked to plan around the brief closure.
🧩 Puzzle Exchange Coming to the Library
The Temiskaming Shores Public Library is collecting gently used, complete puzzles from August 31 to September 19 for an upcoming community Puzzle Exchange. For every accepted puzzle, donors will receive one voucher, with a limit of five puzzles per household.
Puzzle Swap Day is Saturday, September 26, with voucher holders choosing puzzles from noon to 2 p.m. The exchange opens to everyone from 2 to 3 p.m., when remaining puzzles can be picked up without a voucher.
💻 Digital Literacy Sessions
The Temiskaming Shores Public Library offers Digital Literacy Sessions on Thursdays by appointment for anyone looking for help using a smartphone, tablet or laptop.
Residents can get one-on-one assistance and learn more about using their devices. To book a session or get more information, call 705-647-4215.
🎯 Washer League Meeting
Anyone interested in joining a Washer League is invited to an information meeting at Coeur du Village in Earlton on Tuesday, September 8 at 7 p.m.
The meeting will discuss plans for the league, and everyone interested in playing is welcome to attend.
