This weekend, we had the opportunity to explore several beautiful local gardens during the Northern Hospice Care Northern Hospice Care/Soins hospices du nord Sow Much Fun Garden Tour. Each stop had its own personality, from colourful flower beds and peaceful garden spaces to creative landscaping ideas that left us inspired for our own yard.

A sincere thank you goes to every homeowner who welcomed visitors onto their property. Opening your garden to the community is no small gesture, and it made for a wonderful afternoon.

We'd also like to thank Simone from The Greenhaus for generously sharing her gardening knowledge and answering questions throughout the day. We even came home with a few new plants and plenty of ideas to try ourselves.

While picking up our tickets, we also had the unexpected opportunity to sit down with one of the volunteers behind Northern Hospice Care. What began as a quick conversation turned into an inspiring look at the grassroots effort to bring a residential hospice to our region.

Residents on Scott Street in New Liskeard are advised of a temporary water service interruption on Wednesday, July 22, due to a water service break.

Water service will be shut off from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Scott Street will also be closed between Birch Drive and Spruce Avenue during the repair. Residents may experience low water pressure, discoloured water or no water while crews complete the work.

The City thanks residents for their patience as repairs are completed safely.

That pair of gently used shoes sitting in your closet could help someone in need while giving you a chance to win a prize.

BioPed is partnering with Temiskaming Shores Soccer Club and Soles4Souls Canada to host a shoe drive during Day of Champs on Saturday, July 25, at Farr Park in Haileybury.

Donations of gently used shoes can be dropped off at the BioPed table near the TSSC tent between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Donors will receive one ballot for every pair of shoes they contribute for a chance to win prizes.

The collected footwear will support Soles4Souls Canada, an organization that helps provide shoes and opportunities to people in need around the world.

If you're heading to Day of Champs, it's a great opportunity to clear out your closet, support a worthwhile cause and give your old shoes a new purpose.

Pokémon fans of all ages can turn the STATO Trail into their own adventure this week.

From July 22 to 24, the City of Temiskaming Shores is hosting Pokémon Go in Real Life, a free drop-in event where participants can walk or bike the trail, search for hidden Pokémon and trade their discoveries for prizes.

The event runs daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants should begin at the Waterfront Pool & Fitness Centre near Lions Court at 77 Wellington Street, where they'll receive a trainer's journal before heading out on their adventure.

The event is free and open to all ages, making it a fun way for families to get outdoors, explore the waterfront and see how many Pokémon they can catch.

Whitewood Avenue West in New Liskeard will be closed between Golding Street and Edith Street on Wednesday, July 22, while Ontario Northland crews remove an old railway signal stand.

The road closure is expected to be in effect from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to plan an alternate route and allow extra travel time while the work is completed.

The City thanks residents for their patience as crews carry out the work safely.

A precautionary boil water advisory will be in effect for Englehart beginning Monday, July 20, while work is completed at the Town's Water Treatment Plant.

Residents should bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth or making ice. The advisory will remain in effect until the Town of Englehart and Northeastern Public Health announce it has been lifted.

Registration is now open for the 2026 Baby Contest, taking place Saturday, September 19 at 11:00 AM on the Entertainment Stage inside the Horne Granite Curling Club.

The contest is open to babies from newborn to 12 months old, born between September 1, 2025 and August 31, 2026. Registration is required by August 31, with prizes awarded at the end of the contest.
