A few weeks ago, I asked how often you wanted to hear from Tri Town Today.

About 5% of readers responded. It’s not a huge sample, but the results were pretty clear: a majority of those who answered said they would prefer Tri Town Today three days a week instead of every day.

I’ve spent some time thinking about what to do with that feedback, while also thinking about what makes sense for Tri Town Today and for my family.

So, starting tomorrow, there will no longer be a Monday edition of Tri Town Today.

That means after today’s newsletter, the next edition will arrive Tuesday morning, August 11.

For me, dropping Monday is about making a little more room for family time. It isn’t about stepping away from what Tri Town Today has become. I enjoy the rhythm of putting this together each day, and I still believe there’s value in having one place to quickly catch up on what’s happening around our communities.

You now have two choices

If you enjoy getting Tri Town Today regularly, you don’t need to do anything. You’ll continue receiving it Tuesday through Sunday, six days a week. Basically what you’re used to, just without Monday.

If you’d prefer a little less in your inbox, you can switch to three editions a week: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

And if you already chose the three-day option when I sent out the survey, you’re all set. I’ve already made the change for you.

For those who selected Weekend Roundup only, I heard you too. I like the idea, but I haven’t figured out a way to create a separate weekend edition without adding considerably more work. I’d rather wait until I can do it properly. For now, the closest option is Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Why not just switch everyone?

If most people who answered the survey wanted fewer editions, why not make three days a week the new schedule?

Because only about 5% of readers responded.

That’s enough for me to know there are people who want another option, but not enough to assume everyone else wants their newsletter changed too. The regular schedule has worked well so far, and I genuinely enjoy the daily rhythm of finding and sharing what’s happening around our area.

So rather than choosing for everyone, I’m giving you the choice.

Drivers in New Liskeard should be aware of a temporary road closure next weekend as the New Liskeard RAM Rodeo comes to town.

Riverside Drive will be closed between the Municipal Parking Lot and the Marina from Saturday, August 15 through Sunday, August 16. The closure is expected to begin Saturday morning and remain in place until Sunday afternoon.

The closure is being put in place for the rodeo, which will be held at the New Liskeard Fairgrounds throughout the weekend.

Motorists travelling through the area are encouraged to plan ahead, use an alternate route and watch for increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic around the fairgrounds.

Residents on Morissette Drive and Rorke Avenue in Haileybury may experience a temporary water service disruption on Monday, August 10, while crews complete a water main valve repair. Water is expected to be off from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Morissette Drive will be closed from Rorke Avenue to Georgina Avenue from approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., while northbound traffic on Rorke Avenue will be reduced to one lane. Residents along Rorke Avenue between Cecil Street and Carter Boulevard may also experience water disruptions.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 227 is looking for vendors for its Community Garage Sale on August 15 and 16, with table rentals available for $20.

Vendors must bring their own table, and all table rental proceeds support the Legion. To reserve a space, contact June at 705-498-3879.

Haileybury Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54 is bringing back its popular breakfast this Saturday Aug 8th and Sunday Aug 9th only, served from 7 a.m. to noon.

Enjoy a full breakfast for $12 for adults and $6 for children, with all your favourites plus a few delicious extras.

The Armstrong Township Public Library is hosting Magnet Fishing Week from August 10 to 15, inviting visitors to try their luck at catching magnetic fish for a chance to win prizes.

The free activity is open throughout the week at the library and is part of its ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations.

Children 13 and under can enter the New Liskeard RAM Rodeo Colouring Contest for a chance to win before the rodeo rides into town.

Pick up a colouring sheet at New Liskeard Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram or print one online, then return it by Thursday, August 13 at 1:30 p.m. The New Liskeard RAM Rodeo takes place August 15 and 16.

Registration is now open for 4-H Temiskaming Discovery Day, a free hands-on event for youth ages 6 to 12 on Saturday, August 29 at Kerns Hall.

The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and is open to both 4-H members and non-members. Registration is limited to the first 20 participants, so families are encouraged to sign up early.

The Temiskaming Shores Public Library is inviting children ages 3 to 12 to take part in its TD Summer Reading Club Colouring Contest.

The contest runs from July 22 to August 12, with first-place prizes awarded in each age category. Pick up a colouring sheet at the library and submit your entry before the deadline.
