President’s Annual Turkey Shoot - Temiskaming BullsEye Club, Twin Lakes Road, Hudson Twp. | Saturday, September 26, 9:00 AM-2:00 PM | Fully supervised 50/50 target shoot with participation prizes and a fresh-frozen turkey door prize. Ages 12+. Eye and ear protection available.
Family Fun Day on the Farm - Breault Family Farm, 117411 Sales Barn Rd., New Liskeard | September 26 | 10 AM–4 PM | Farm fun for all ages with a farmers’ market, kids’ activities, face painting, free tractor and wagon rides, BBQ, live music and silent auction. Temiskaming Colour Run/Walk - Temiskaming Nordic Ski Club, Coleman | Get Active in Temiskaming’s Colour Run/Walk returns with 14 colour stations along the route. Register online in advance to save $5 and help organizers plan shirts and supplies
Monster Bingo - Earlton Arena | 1 PM | Earlton Lions Club hosts Monster Bingo with $25,000 in prizes. Regular four-strip game books are $50 cash only, with specials and jackpot strips available separately. Doors and canteen open at 11 AM.
Wild Dogs RC Poker Run - Latchford Legion Branch 629 | Starts 11 AM | $25 per hand. No motorcycle required to participate. BBQ available, with crib starting at 1 PM while riders are out. Rain or shine. Proceeds support veterans and the community
Royal Canadian Legion 100th Anniversary Open House - Branch 293, 31 Market Street, Larder Lake | Saturday, September 26, 1:00-4:00 PM | The community is invited to an open house celebrating the Royal Canadian Legion’s 100th anniversary and its century of service. Everyone is welcome.
A Century of Soft and Rebellious Harmonies - 10 rue de l’Église, Notre-Dame-du-Nord | 2–4 PM | The Rouyn-Noranda Orchestra presents a 30-musician wind and percussion concert as part of Journées de la culture. Tickets $25 adults and $10 for students 18 and under
Volunteer Fair | Meet local organizations and discover ways to volunteer in the community at Northern College’s Haileybury Campus from 5 to 8 p.m. More than 20 local groups will be on hand to share volunteer opportunities. Admission and parking are free.
Comedy Night & Live Music - Horne Granite Curling Club, New Liskeard | Doors 6 PM | Comedians DK Phan and Letterkenny’s Jeff McEnery take the stage with MC Dom Paré, followed by live music from Volturesque at 9 PM. Tickets $30 at the door. Part of the proceeds supports the Temiskaming Hospital Foundation.
Deep Water Project Encore - Classic Theatre, Cobalt | 7 PM | Eleven local musicians bring Northern Ontario’s history to life through spoken word and an original 13-song musical journey. Fundraiser for the Classic Theatre and New Liskeard Coffeehouse. $40/person.
Toe Jam Tequila Dance Party | Toe Jam Tequila returns to Haileybury Legion Branch 54 Saturday at 8 p.m. for a night of live music and dancing. The event is a fundraiser for the Pavilion Women’s Centre. Tickets are available through Eventbrite.

Youth Air Rifle Program - Northern College Gymnasium, Haileybury | September 27 | 1–3 PM | Temiskaming Bullseye Club’s youth air rifle program returns. All equipment is supplied. Free for youth named on a club family membership and Northern College students; other participants welcome with a $25 insurance fee. Use Door #3.

PA Day Craft Attack - Open Studio Libre, Haileybury | 9 AM–4 PM | Kids 7+ can make corn husk dolls using traditional methods with Karen Beland of the Temiskaming Métis Council, plus afternoon crafts. $30 half day or $55 full day. Registration required.
Skate with the Cubs - Don Shepherdson Memorial Arena | 9:30–10:30 AM | Spend the PD Day skating with the New Liskeard Cubs. Free to attend, sponsored by Goldbelt Supply Ltd.
Sept 29th
Write Your Story Workshop | Beginner writers can explore personal essay writing with author Teresa Allaire at the Museum of Northern History in Kirkland Lake from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The workshop includes writing exercises designed to spark creativity and help participants find their own voice. Registration is $35 plus tax.
Sept 30th
Every Child Matters Walk | Join Keepers of the Circle at 9:30 a.m. at 121 Scott Street in New Liskeard for a walk to the waterfront honouring residential school children, survivors, families and communities. Wear an orange shirt. No registration is required.
Roast Pork Loin Supper - McGarry Legion Branch 38 | September 30 | Doors open 4:30 PM | Enjoy pork loin, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, coleslaw, dinner roll and lemon squares. $15 per plate; $7 for children 12 and under. Cash bar. Takeout available by calling Wendy at 705-668-0454.
Temiskaming Foundation Grant Deadline | Local organizations have until September 30 to apply for fall community grants through the Community Fund, For Kids Sake Fund, Englehart & Area Fund and Historic Cobalt Legacy Fund. Applications and funding details are available online.

Give Back Dinner | Kirkland Lake Legion Branch 87 is serving pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans and dessert from 5 to 7 p.m. Veterans and seniors 60+ eat free and all others pay $5. Non-perishable food donations will be collected for the food bank. No takeout available.
Oct 3rd
Ride Into Fall | Elk Lake Wilderness Resort hosts a guided ATV/SXS ride followed by a warm meal, campfire and live music by Jayden Martin. Cost is $35 per person and includes the meal. An OFATV trail permit is required, with day passes available.
Karaoke Competition | Musical Mayhem hosts its semi-annual karaoke competition at The Fed Downtown in Kirkland Lake starting at 8 p.m. Singers compete for a $500 first-place prize, with cash prizes for second and third. Entry is $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
Oct 6th
Seniors Active Living Fair | Seniors can enjoy live entertainment, guest speakers, more than 15 exhibitors and a free lunch at Northern College’s Haileybury Campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is required by September 30. Free transportation is available.

Open Door Studio Tour Returns

The Englehart Area Artists Open Door Studio Tour returns this weekend, giving visitors a chance to meet local artists and see where their work is created.
The free, self-guided tour runs Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes 12 stops throughout Englehart, Charlton, Earlton and the surrounding area.

Visitors can follow the tour map from studio to studio, discovering a wide range of locally made work including pottery, paintings, glass and fabric art, woodworking, jewellery, photography, baking, preserves and handcrafted home goods.
Several stops are inside the artists' own homes and studios, making the weekend an opportunity to meet the people behind the work and explore some unique creative spaces across the area.

Find Your Writing Voice

Have a story you’ve always wanted to tell? Creative Café is hosting Write Your Story, a beginner creative writing workshop at the Museum of Northern History in Kirkland Lake.
Author and photographer Teresa Allaire, creator of The Kirkland Lake Project, will lead participants through personal essay writing, creative exercises and ways to find their own unique voice.
The workshop takes place Tuesday, September 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the museum, 2 Chateau Drive. Registration is $35 plus tax per person.

Writers Retreat Heads North

Writers looking for time, space and inspiration can head to Camp Bickell near Iroquois Falls for the Harvest Moon Writer’s Retreat, running October 2 to 4.
The weekend brings writers together for a chance to focus on their craft and learn from experienced Canadian storytellers, including bestselling author Terry Fallis, award-winning children’s author and educator Paul Toffanello and award-winning storyteller Dave Carroll.
And there’s another local connection: Brit Griffin is expected to be among the retreat’s guest speakers.
Whether you’re working on your first novel or already have a project underway, the retreat is built around a simple invitation: “Come home to your writing.”

Puzzle Exchange Today

Looking for a new puzzle for the cooler fall days? The Temiskaming Shores Public Library Puzzle Exchange takes place today, Saturday, September 26.
Those with puzzle vouchers can choose their replacements from 12 to 2 p.m. From 2 to 3 p.m., the exchange opens to everyone, with remaining puzzles available without vouchers.
Complimentary coffee and cookies will be served.

💰 Community Grant Deadline Approaching
The Temiskaming Foundation is accepting applications for its fall community grants until September 30.
Funding is available through the Community Fund, For Kids Sake Fund, Englehart & Area Fund and Historic Cobalt Legacy Fund. Organizations interested in applying can review eligibility requirements and application details on the Temiskaming Foundation website.
🎨 Appreciate Autumn Colouring Contest
The Temiskaming Shores Public Library is holding an Appreciate Autumn Colouring Contest for children ages 3 to 12 from September 19 to October 17.
Children can compete in three age categories: 3–5, 6–8 and 9–12, with a prize for the first-place winner in each group. Colouring pages are available at the library's Reference Desk.
💧 Temagami Water System Flushing
The Ontario Clean Water Agency will conduct routine flushing of Temagami’s municipal water system, with revised dates of September 21 to 25 for Temagami South and September 28 to October 2 for Temagami North.
Residents may experience temporary water discolouration, rust or sediment, and reduced water pressure during the work. Once flushing is complete, run a cold-water tap with the aerator removed until the water runs clear.
🧩 Puzzle Exchange Coming to the Library
The Temiskaming Shores Public Library is collecting gently used, complete puzzles from August 31 to September 19 for an upcoming community Puzzle Exchange. For every accepted puzzle, donors will receive one voucher, with a limit of five puzzles per household.
Puzzle Swap Day is Saturday, September 26, with voucher holders choosing puzzles from noon to 2 p.m. The exchange opens to everyone from 2 to 3 p.m., when remaining puzzles can be picked up without a voucher.
