Solar Farm Coming to Our Backyard — Matachewan First Nation Lands 20-Year Ontario Contract

Pic Credit: CNW Group/Neoen
A 65 MWp / 50 MW solar farm is coming to the Timiskaming District — just 20 km southeast of Temiskaming Shores. French renewable energy company Neoen and Matachewan First Nation have been awarded a 20-year contract by Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) through its competitive Long-Term 2 Energy Supply procurement. The project will be co-owned 50/50 by Neoen and Matachewan First Nation — the community's first utility-scale renewable energy project. Once operational, the farm will generate nearly 100,000 MWh of emissions-free energy per year — enough to power 10,500 Ontario households. Construction is expected to begin in 2028 with a target in-service date of 2029. Neoen was also awarded a separate contract with Garden River First Nation near Sault Ste. Marie for a 253 MWp solar farm — set to become Ontario's largest. Significant local jobs and economic benefits are expected from both projects. Full Story Here

Conservation Sudbury has extended the flood warning until April 30. The City of North Bay has reopened sandbag filling stations this weekend as Lake Nipissing water levels continue to rise. Game Coming Soon!
Be On The Look Out!
You’re going to start seeing this guy around.
We call him the Tri Town Guide.

We’re going to be launching a simple game on Facebook called Find the Guide. On certain days we’ll post a photo somewhere around the Tri Town. The Guide will be in that photo. Your job will be to figure out where it is.

You’ll drop your guess in the comment, and every correct answer will count as an entry. We’ll draw a winner each week and feature them in the newsletter. Local businesses will be part of it too, so prizes will come from right here in the community.
It’s meant to be simple. Something quick, something fun, something that makes you look at the tri town area a little differently.
We’re not launching it just yet. We want to build this up properly first. But it’s coming soon.
So for now, just keep an eye out.
Because once the Guide starts showing up, you’ll know it’s time to play.
