Free for youth named on a club family membership and Northern College students; other participants welcome with a $25 insurance fee. Use Door #3.

PA Day Craft Attack - Open Studio Libre, Haileybury | 9 AM–4 PM | Kids 7+ can make corn husk dolls using traditional methods with Karen Beland of the Temiskaming Métis Council, plus afternoon crafts. $30 half day or $55 full day. Registration required.

Temiskaming Foundation Grant Deadline | Local organizations have until September 30 to apply for fall community grants through the Community Fund, For Kids Sake Fund, Englehart & Area Fund and Historic Cobalt Legacy Fund. Applications and funding details are available online.

New Novel Takes Readers to 1909 Cobalt

A new historical novel will take readers back to the early days of the Cobalt silver boom, with a cover that has its own strong connection to Northern Ontario.
Author Christine Langlois has revealed the cover of her upcoming novel, Maude’s Chance, a work of historical fiction set in the Cobalt silver camp in 1909.
The Northern connection goes beyond the story. Designer Brenda Martin created the cover using a painting of a northern headframe by Christine’s mother, Sheila Langlois, a lifelong Kirkland Lake resident and artist whose work frequently celebrated the northern landscape.
Sheila also spent many years painting with the Cobalt Artists Colony, making her artwork a particularly fitting choice for a novel set in Cobalt.
The publication date for Maude’s Chance has not yet been announced, but the newly revealed cover offers the first glimpse of a story rooted in the people, landscape and mining history of the North.
Cubs Open at Home With Three Games

The New Liskeard Cubs are back at the Don Shepherdson Memorial Arena this weekend, with three home games against the Thunder Bay Kings.
The weekend begins Friday, September 25 at 8 p.m. with the Cubs’ home opener.
The teams meet again Saturday at 8 p.m. for Truth and Reconciliation Night, followed by an early start Sunday at 10 a.m. to close out the three-game weekend.
For local hockey fans, it’s the first chance this season to catch the Cubs for a full weekend of action at the Shep.

🚧 Sunnyside Road Closure
Sunnyside Road between Lakeshore Road and Phippens Road in Temiskaming Shores will be closed on Thursday, September 24 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for an emergency exercise.
Residents may hear sirens and see emergency lights and simulated smoke during the exercise. There is no threat to public safety. Drivers are asked to use an alternate route during the closure.

🎨 Appreciate Autumn Colouring Contest
The Temiskaming Shores Public Library is holding an Appreciate Autumn Colouring Contest for children ages 3 to 12 from September 19 to October 17.
Children can compete in three age categories: 3–5, 6–8 and 9–12, with a prize for the first-place winner in each group. Colouring pages are available at the library's Reference Desk.
🍔 Arena Concession Operator Wanted
The Town of Englehart is looking for an individual, business, sports group or community organization interested in operating the concession booth at the Englehart Arena for the upcoming season.
The opportunity could be used to run a small business or raise funds for a team or community organization. Proposals must be submitted to Karen Cooke at [email protected] by Friday, September 25 at 2 p.m
💧 Temagami Water System Flushing
The Ontario Clean Water Agency will conduct routine flushing of Temagami’s municipal water system, with revised dates of September 21 to 25 for Temagami South and September 28 to October 2 for Temagami North.
Residents may experience temporary water discolouration, rust or sediment, and reduced water pressure during the work. Once flushing is complete, run a cold-water tap with the aerator removed until the water runs clear.
🧩 Puzzle Exchange Coming to the Library
The Temiskaming Shores Public Library is collecting gently used, complete puzzles from August 31 to September 19 for an upcoming community Puzzle Exchange. For every accepted puzzle, donors will receive one voucher, with a limit of five puzzles per household.
Puzzle Swap Day is Saturday, September 26, with voucher holders choosing puzzles from noon to 2 p.m. The exchange opens to everyone from 2 to 3 p.m., when remaining puzzles can be picked up without a voucher.
