$7.8M Investment Moves Local Refinery Project Forward

A major industrial project is gaining momentum again.
Electra Battery Materials has been awarded $7.8 million in new contracts as work continues on its Cobalt. The funding will go toward mechanical systems, piping, and a new storage facility, all key pieces needed to move the project closer to completion.
This marks another step forward after construction was paused in 2023 due to rising costs and supply chain challenges. The project is now back on track, with production still targeted for 2027.

For the Tri Town area, this isn’t just another construction update. The refinery is expected to create around 50 jobs once operational will play an important role in North America’s growing electric vehicle battery supply chain.
It’s a long-term investment that signals confidence in the region’s future and its place in the evolving mining and manufacturing sector.

Heads Up: Sunday Public Skate Cancelled

If you were planning to get out on the ice this Sunday evening, there’s been a change to the schedule.
The public skate at the Don Shepherdson Memorial Arena in New Liskeard, originally set for April 12 from 6:15 to 7:45 pm, has been cancelled.
No reason was given for the cancellation, but the city has shared an apology for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their understanding.
If skating was part of your weekend plans, it might be a good idea to check upcoming ice times or look for alternate activities around the area.

The U19 Temiskaming Thunder girls are off to a strong start at their tournament in Aurora, opening with a dominant 63–22 win over IEM Newmarket on Friday night.
They followed that up with another solid performance, defeating the Toronto Hoopsters 44–40 in a much tighter matchup to keep their momentum going.
The team has shown great defense, composure, and teamwork throughout the tournament, proving they can control a game early and also battle through close finishes.
At the time of this publication, the final score of their third game against the Belleville Spirits was not yet available.
No matter the result, the Thunder girls have already put together an impressive showing as they represent the Tri Town area with pride.
Their games were livestreamed on the Temiskaming Thunder’s Facebook Page

Game Coming Soon!
Be On The Look Out!
You’re going to start seeing this guy around.
We call him the Tri Town Guide.

We’re going to be launching a simple daily game on Facebook called Find the Guide. Each day we’ll post a photo somewhere around the Tri Town. The Guide will be in that photo. Your job will be to figure out where it is.

You’ll drop your guess in the comment, and every correct answer will count as an entry. We’ll draw a winner each week and feature them in the newsletter. Local businesses will be part of it too, so prizes will come from right here in the community.
It’s meant to be simple. Something quick, something fun, something that makes you look at the tri town area a little differently.
We’re not launching it just yet. We want to build this up properly first. But it’s coming soon.
So for now, just keep an eye out.
Because once the Guide starts showing up, you’ll know it’s time to play.
